she must be feeling dreadful - I wouldn't be surprised if counselling isn't offered to bystanders - if it isn't, it damn well should be.

My daughter said her thoughts were with the driver also...She just called and said they had some older students waiting to pick her up and took her straight to lunch before a lecture so that was nice of them..Fingers crossed she made a good impression..

As usual you put it better than I could. I would not want to detract from the fact that the person was desperate but I do feel for the drivers of the trains involved and also the passengers. as you say, the person was not thinking straight but those poor drivers.

Hi Ann. As someone who made a very serious attempt at ending it all I can assure you that the person never thinks of anyone else but themselves at the time - that is if they are serious and it isn't a cry for help. Sadly I never gave a thought to my husband, my son or my mother at the time - my head was too screwed up to think of anything other than stopping the world and just getting off. With regard to the incident we are speaking of, what I do take issue with is making someone else be involved with your suicide. My son is a train driver and fortunately it hasn't happened to him yet but some of his colleagues have experienced it, some on more than one occasion. The last one his friend experienced was a young girl who actually stood on the end of a platform of a station he was passing through at over 100 miles an hour, she looked him straight in the eyes and just stepped off. Dreadful for her of course and her loved ones, but for him he was a helpless accomplice in it. Some drivers are unable to drive ever again.

Oh Kerry, how traumatic for your daughter. The number of times this happens, I feel for somebody who is sad enough to take their own life but how I wish they would think of the effects on other people.

I hope a teenagers natural resilience will help your daughter and that the uni made allowance for her trauma.

Afternoon everyone....
Well i was a proud mum when i dropped daughter off at train station at 7.30 this morn for her day interview at Cambridge uni, She was all smiles as the train left until at 9.30 she called and said train stopped as as someone jumped in front of it...Now i am very sorry for that person and my condolences for their family but as a 16 yr old my daughter was in pieces..She was crying on phone and it seems to have really effected her..She made it to Cambridge 4 hrs late and i just hope this doesnt affect her interview with them...Im picking her up at 5 and cant wait to give her a massive hug...She needs it...

Deanna, you were born the same year as me then (1940?). I will be 68 in August. Used to feel 10 years younger but for the last couple of week, feel more like 20 older Lol!!!

Went (slowly) into town today on the bus with OH. had to go to the chiropodist (Yep, got funny toe nails as well!). also went to M&S to buy a strappy top with secret support to see if any more comfortable than my bras are at the moment.
Then went to Ll**** chemist to get bio oil and also nurofen. was asked if the nurofen were for me, "yes they were", am I sude to taking them? "yes I am". was i taking BP medication? "yes I am". well shouldn't take nurofen then, I explained that I have been on BP medication for over 7 years and have always taken nurofen for my back pain. According to the pharmacist the nurofen works against the BP medication and stops it lowering the BP. so i didn't buy them from there. But I have not heard that before. anyone know if this is a new thing?

A bit tired and sore after the expedition but we did have lunch out in Wetherspoons (fish and chips) so don't have a meal to get now.

Poor, poor Ann, fancy being left out of the poem. Come on Kathy, a verse for Ann GG please.

Hi gang, as Ann says, I have had a good morning, got absolutely nothing done apart from watching sheep and writing a long pm to Deanna,..... it's not coming Deanna if you are looking in, I've lost it, it's all Dutches fault. Yea, Dutch rung me and was telling me about something she's ordered, I said I'll put it up on Google, never thinking about pm. 50odd minutes later when she put the phone down it dawned on me, where's my pm. I'll have to start again Deanna, but I wanted to say I've rung the hospital volunteers and explained about all my books having to go. They are not cheap paperbacks but all hardbacks, gardening, cookery, art, countryside books of nature,that sort of thing, I drew the line at my poetry books, they all went back on shelf. Anyway she said seeing as they are so many and heavy with it she will send a volunteer driver up to collect them for me. Oh goody, I feel as if a weight has been lifted, we wondered how to get them there for their bookstall, all proceeds go to the hospital to buy new wheelchairs.

I was wondering how Gail is and her MiL has anybody seen her or heard from her. If you are looking in Gail, I hope everything is ok. I'm certain now that Jules has emigrated to warmer climes.

Joyce JP, are you still deep in your research or has it worn off a little? If you have time to say hello it would be nice to see you.

forgot to say I am 64+2days, head thinks it's in my twenties, body thinks it's 90.

Carole we are the same age, mind I will be 50 in a few weeks lol.

I shall be 72 in June but in my head more like 22 - keep well up with the fashions and my pals tell me I look ten years younger than I am, but they're my pals so they could be lying!!

Kathy thank you for including me in your poem, it made me feel wanted somehow. Anyway only spent 2 and half hours in pool yesterday but enjoyed it.

I have just turned 57. Deanna you don't look 67 from here I am most suprised.

Angela, my next door neighbors fence has also blown down for the 3rd time since last year,his gate has blown off too. I go half with him when he fixes the fence but it is getting a bit much now. Scooby can easily get out onto the road and he loves to chase cats (they have one next door) I also feel a bit insecure with the fence down. He says he will get anew one put up and i have told him I will pay half again so we will see what happens. It is such a nuisence though 'cos I can't just let Scooby out and leave him, it does wear me down and hubby won't let him out at all so I have to stand there till he wants to come in again.

Moan over now, it's looking dull here must fetch washing in. Hope to go to Meadowhall tomorrow so might not be on here.

Still very windy here, but I'm safe and warm... wishing I were feeling a bit better.

I always take a pen and a note book with me.
A trick I learnt as a young mummy!
It helps to remember the IMPORTANT questions to ask, and do take notes.... although with your OH better make it a little secretive! ;-0)

Irene, I am not on that medicine you mentioned..CITALOPRAM.... what is it for , iron(?) because I have to have an other blood test to see if they can give me the iron tablets.
I do hope that it shows that I need them.
I'm getting so fed up being fed up.
I need something to give me a little energy.

Dave, you are just a bay love.... I remember being your age and by youngest was just a baby and I was enjoying all the kisses and cuddles from him. But he is still affectionate, so can't complain.
Now... if we are still doing the ages... I am 67, soon to be 68.... I am only 17 in my head and heart, but when I pass a mirror.... this fat old woman keeps pinching my reflection!! LOL

Thanks for all your welcome messages when I 1st posted. Have been feeling too down to post again. This morning is the last (tho small) straw. I found that part of my very ropey fencing had fallen down & now my dogs can escape. I am on benefits & can no way afford to replace it. Have to see my landlord about it I guess. I believe it belongs to next door but no-one lives there.

No, Carole, I don't want your headache thanks. Lol

I am 56 but feel more like 70, oh for a cure for depression!

Liz I'm sorry about your appointment, it does cause upset when you have geared yourself up for it, but fate intended you to meet an old friend, I bet it took your mind off the upset.
Pleased to see you are starting to come to terms with clearing your house, a little bit at a time and you will soon want to get it done. I know it's hard for you to throw anything away but think of it as getting your house ready to move back into.
I'm also pleased that oh has said you can go with him, he will be glad in the end, I can never remember what the docs have told me so rely on hubby to tell me later.
Good luck with it anyway, let us know if you opened your mouth or not, ( I wouldn't be able not to ask a question if I wanted an answer).
Summer Liz it's nice to see you on this thread and you are welcome any time, if you get down with your housing situation we will soon have you back up. We can't sort it for you but we will get you laughing again, even if it's just while you are with us on here.

Malc, what tablets are you on, I seem to remember you have told us but I have forgotten, it sounds like they are not working as well for you now and maybe you need a check with your doctor. Next time you put a unit together, don't think about it and say to yourself 'sod it if it turns out unique'. By the way I couldn't go to sessions where there are other people, I have turned them down as I can't talk in a group, I panic, is there any way you could have a one to one with somebody?
