Joy GC/GR May still take your payment as your's is Visa but mine is Switch /Maestro and thats why I had to pay through PayPal.
It's just I have always paid by Switch,so inconvenient.

That's interesting, Sue. I pay by Visa debit card, and paid £7-50 last April (even though I'd emailed and asked how much it would be and was told £9 something). I await April with interest.

Dee

When I renewed last night I had a big problem as GC/GR have stopped taking DEBIT cards,(they only take Mastercard and Visa credit cards now).

I had to pay my money by PAYPAL ACCOUNT which is under the ***Easy One Payment-Pay with the card you used the last time***.

Really a nuisance that they have stopped taking DEBIT CARDS as i do not have a credit card.

Best if you haven't got a gredit card to go through PAYPAL.

The problem occurs because Genes have decided to reward their loyal members by freezing their fee at the price they first paid. (If they have continuous membership)

I first joined at £7.50 but didn't have continuous so it increased to £9.95. This is the second year I have paid £9.95.The perceived problem with running a campaign would be that ALL memberships would be set at £9.95 for 6 months.

Don't for one minute think that if we have a hissy fit and threaten not to renew they will reduce the fee. There are plenty of peeps out there to continue to rake in the money for them.

Like Theresa and others, I've been a member since 2002 but was still charged £9.95 for a year last February.

I am worried because my handbag and credit card were stolen in August, and my replacement card therefore has a different number than the one I have always used before to renew, and GR say they have no facility for me to change my card No. before my (continuous) renewal next month.

Hope this doesn't mean that they will count me as a new member and charge me the £9.95 for six months!

OMG

Re Jonesy's post.

I have been a member since Nov 2002 and I paid 9.95 last year for 1 year. Many others got it cheaper. I was told they were 'trialing' prices.

Lets put it like this and I hope GC or whatever they call themselves are watching. I will not pay 9.95 for 6 months. Its ridiculous.

Estelle was the one who gave me those very answers a year ago too. I kept the emails.

love Theresa

Gill we have tried banding together on this but GR wouldn't budge.

Hi everyone

I would like to think that if we all got together and complained to GR something might be done about their charging policy, but I'm sure the reality will be a case of "like it or lump it"!!

I paid 9.95 for the last 6 month but understood if you were on continous you would get a discount - which is not whats happened.

Maddiecow Report 10 Jan 2008 07:29

Kaz it dosent save money thats my point - I am on continous and they are renewing me for only 6 months at 9.95 when others are being renewed for a year at the same price.

I have just deleted my first message as was a wee bit strong but I don't understand the complaints! Please forgive me if I have not caught on !!
The continuous membership seems to be a good thing and saves money . It is still a very cheap option for what you get!

Thanks to this thread, I also checked mine and it had been changed to continuous. I renewed manually back in October, it didn't ask if I wanted to change to continuous so I'm almost annoyed. They shouldn't be able to change your settings like that.

They are not very organised and with various rates could lose customers rather than encourage them.

I have been a member about 4 1/2 yrs.
But still paid £9-95 last year and this year.

Annoying isn't it.

I cannot be sure but think I paid £7.50 in the beginning so if it is to stay the same how come I have been charged £9.95 this month? Been a member about 5 years

It appears to be more like a poorly run game of Bingo! They pull your number and say right - your price is .....

Jonesy

I have been a member for a number of years now, when I first joined the fee was £5 a year.then it went up to £7-50 and I have just paid £9-95 to renew.

So what GC/GR have said in the email sent to you, they are telling white lies.

Sue

ps forgot to say this is my 2nd year of paying £9-95.

Thanks Jonsey it makes sense but still a kick in the teeth. I renew this 6 months - but dont know about the next.

I like the chat but have moved everything else over to Ancestry. I suspose when I find the chat forums on there - if GR havent bucked up - I may decide to give it a rest.

Gill Report 9 Jan 2008 21:03

This is the reply I received when I asked why some members were being charged £13.00, some £9.95 for 6 months, some £9.95 for 12 months and some £7.50

Hope it helps.

"I am sorry for any confusion. Members who renew within 4 weeks of the renewal are charged the price they paid the time before. For example, if you joined the site a few years ago, you'd have paid £7.50 for membership. If you have kept this membership going you'll still be paying £7.50. This is why there is a discrepancy.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,

Estelle
The Genes Support Team"

Therefore, if you joined for 6 months then you will always be charged the same for the same period, in my case £9.95!
