Joyce

Don't give up that you won't be fit for the operation.

My neighbour upstairs has had an operation for AAA and he was 73,a smoker and has breathing problems.

He went in as an emergency and was out in 14 days.
And he is ok now and still a smoker.

Positive thoughts and Hugs for you.

Joyce, I don't know what to say, other than.... don't give up... any chance of a second opinion?

((((((hugs))))))) and prayers that all will turn out well when you have had the anaesthetists assessment, after the tests.

Joyce, positive thoughts for you that you can have the operation. If you can't you could still have many years ahead so enjoy your life. My Mum had an aortic aneurism which she didn't know about (although when she had a major op at about 81 years old they apparently found it. she died from it when she was 85 so lived almost five years longer. As you say you could be run over by a bus tomorrow, or live another 5/6 years. none of us know when our time will be up. as I said, try and enjoy your life once you have got over the shock.

Oh Joyce....................what a shock for you.

But.......................how dare they cite your age as a reason not to operate!!

This makes me so angry..........you deserve the treatment as much as anyone yonger than you.

I have a heart murmer and have had an anaesthetic with no problems.

As for the reduced lung capacity due to smoking..................well asthmatics have anaesthetics all the time, so why should all this be used as an argument to not operate on you.

You are a very strong lady and I'm really pleased your daughter went with you, but really cross that they won't consider an operation to correct the problem.

Joyce, I'm amazed that they won't operate but a family friend was diagnosed with one and refused the op himself, he lived for a further 37 years, so stay strong. Col x

So sorry Joyce to hear what the consultant has said about the chance of op going ahead.

That may change when the outcome of further tests are known, I sincerely hope so and keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Open surgery for AAA is major, I was wondering Joyce if your consultant mentioned a less invasive procedure which can be done ? An Endovascular repair of your AAA it can be carried out under local aenesthetic on aneurysms over 5cm, requires less of a stay in hospital. Recovery is quicker and it is much less traumatic for a patient. If he didn't it might be worth asking him about the possibility of this ((( hugs))).

Take care Joyce, wishing you all the very best of luck.
