I think that John was very disappointed with the outcome that he didn't have Irish blood.

Looking forward to next weeks already.

Little Lost Report 13 Sep 2007 21:59

for me this has to have been the best one so far. Couldnt help laughing when he found his great grandmotehrs school was now an Ann Summers shop..
But I have been to Grimsby Library many many times and not once has any of the staff walked up to me and said look I have a marriage certificate for you.
Also his connection with Cranbrook as I have ancestors from that area as well

Rambling Report 13 Sep 2007 22:04

I was interested as I have recently found that my grandfather was born in Grimsby.......

I felt sorry for him that he had 'lost' his
Irish background....but then maybe he was Irish in a past life!

He lived and was married in Ireland for years, Rose. Maybe he just felt he WAS Irish:-) lol BC

MrDaff Report 13 Sep 2007 22:08

I did wonder that myself, Rose, as he said how he felt that he was at home in Ireland.. I feel like that about one place that I have lived, too, as you know.
Intriguing

What I find quite interesting is that a number of people I know are really quite keen on 'belonging', they have an unexplained empathy for a particular race or culture.
My mother always said that she really felt she understood herself much better when she realised she had irish roots.....

That was the first time I ever felt I had belonged anywhere.. I had put it down to moving around so much when I was a child.

But since researching my tree, I have found that the majority of my Gt's came from Devon and Cornwall. I have only been once, as a teenager with my boyfriends' family. I'm keen to go back and see if anything *stirs* for me.

I've always liked John Hurt and was looking forward to seeing his programme. Sorry to say I found it boring!
He only concentrated on one line, very disappointing.

Hiya Mau.:-)
I think I was more fascinated with his brother's bad teeth than the programme! But of course, they would concentrate on the more glamorous myths in the family, rather than the (probably) very mundane facts about the rest of his family. BC XX

Lol Ann , I moved around a lot when I was young too.
Really want to go to Co Kerry where my grandfather's family come from, have a leaning towards most things Irish, not sure about Grimsby though?! Gt grandfather on that side was a fish merchant. Doesn't hold much appeal lol

will try and get to my 'past life' village sometime see how I feel there.

I thought the name Lord Browne rang a bell and just looked at my tree and I have a Neville Lord Browne born in ..........Grimsby, I wonder if it is the same family?

Tracey

Tracey Report 13 Sep 2007 22:40

There was a Neville on his tree, did anyone notice the date?

Helen1959

Helen1959 Report 13 Sep 2007 22:45

Wow, Tracey,

you might be connected.

Isn't it weird about things been passed down by word of mouth. My Mum used to always say that her dad's side of the family came from South Wales and that was were I got my singing voice from them. Well I only really started looking at the families history after Mum died 6 years ago next week, and I think she would have a shock, because so far I haven't found a single Welsh connection.

Thanks Helen

He wasn't a blood relative, one of my lot married him
but it is still quite exciting!

If it is on again I'll have a look at the date on the tree at the end.
