Are you from Northamptonshire .........?

Janet

Janet Report 19 Jan 2004 16:41

I remember a thread something like this last year, and there didn't seem to be many of us! Everyone else is getting their County mentioned and I felt left out!

My ancestors came from Wellingborough and Mears Ashby. See messages on English site. Rosemary.

Hi, I've got Northamptonshire blood running through my veins!! My Jones ancestors were in Northants from at least the late 1600s, the main branches leaving in the mid 1800s to go to London, and some to the USA. But if the earlier large families are anything to go by, I still must have many distant cousins in the area. My lot lived in Moulton and then Flore. Di.

Hi Janet I'm the Northants escapee - living in a barren Wiltshire. No-one else has admitted to belonging here, so you have more on your thread than I had!! Sue

Badger Bill, Worthing Report 20 Jan 2004 06:35

Hi Janet No, sorry, I don't live in Northamptonshire, but my eldest daughter and her daughter do, so I have a visa to let me in occasionally. Does that help? Badger Bill Worthing

Janet

Janet Report 20 Jan 2004 09:07

Badger Bill Well ...... I dunno ...... have you had your jabs.....!? Aw - go on then - you sound all right, really. We'll let you in! We'll class you as 'Northamptonshire by close association'! Sue Ahhhhhhh ...........! We'll lay claim to you, even if they don't want you! Janet

Janet Just to add support - my Key/Ratnett ancestors go back to Northampton in the early 1800s, and I'm looking forward to visiting the Record Office, hopefully to trace the missing marriage between the two families! Regards Helen

I'm not from Northants either, but very close, Milton Keynes, and my mothers family comes mainly from Deanshanger, Yardley Gobion etc, so I think I just about scrape in :) Someone mentioned visa's before which reminds me of my sons birth; he caught us by surprise in Cornwall very prematurely, and spent quite a while there in special care... when we left the nurses made him a "passport" which stated that he was born in Cornwall and could therefore cross the Tamar without impediment :-D

Janet Report 27 Jan 2004 12:44

Yeah - you'll do, Paul .......!! It seems as if there aren't many from Northants on this site, but plenty of ancestors have moved away! By the way - have you still got the concrete cows in Milton Keynes? I think I remember them being stolen, but I'm not sure if you got them back? Janet

Unknown Report 27 Jan 2004 13:42

Sigh. yes the concrete cows are still here. For anyone who doesn't know... Milton Keynes is a "New Town" build in the north of Buckinghamshire starting in the late 60's early 70's, incorparating several small towns and villages in the process (Wolverton, Stony Stratford, Bletchley etc). Because we're a fairly "green" town, in a fairly rural area, some bright spark decided to build some "concrete cows" as kind of a symbol of that mix of countryside and town/city. Unfortunately this means that whenever anyone thinks of Milton Keynes, all they ever think about (apart from the grid road system/roundabouts and the shopping centre) are the *%$! concrete cows. They're still here, have survived havign one of their number stolen (but replaced), frequently being vandalised, and on one occasion some clever sod made a fibre glass bull and "mounted" it on one of them ;-)

Janet

Janet Report 27 Jan 2004 13:48

I quite liked the concrete cows idea, actually - quite quirky! At the rate our village farms are disappearing/turning over to arable farming, we could do with some here to remind us all of what it used to be like!

You wou'dn't like them so much if you'd spent most of your life being mocked because of them lol
