Morning all, Will give this thread a prod, as just passing through. Amazing how time flies and I suddenly realise I haven't been on site for weeks! Concentrating on FH at present, am busy signing up distant cousins to a family e-mail network for the purpose, the list is growing every day! Have just been checking out some early Pughs with Bangor Cathedral, they apparently have a booklet on one of them, who was vicar of Bangor in the early C19th. (My tree is lousy with Welsh Anglican clergymen, so much so that I have coloured them green in my own software prog, to distinguish them from other key males (blue) and females (red). The whole thing looks like a forest! Must dash, will call in again in due course. Best wishes, everyone, Philip

Morning All, I hope i find you all well. Weather is bright but cold -so different to yesterday and the forecast is for snow showers - fingers crossed it keeps away-had enough in Feb. Took my dog back to the Vets last night for a check and she said that the Tumour has grown very quickly, quicker then she thought it would, he is not eating normal food now but loved the baby food i got for him. He is still running around and plays with the kids- but you can see he gets tried easily, the kids have be wonderful taking the news, one even wants another now -but don`t think so. Have been very lucky this week, my boss(hubbie) said that i can work from home and the kids have had their moments when they have said they wished i was back at work as the `phone doesn`t stop ringing for me. Forgot to when i say kids my daughter has her friend staying for a couple of days, they roll out of bed around lunchtime and then want a cooked brekkie-lovely with fresh bread-just got myself a bread maker-the bread dosen`t last long- as my daughter keeps saying gone in 30secs.(not quiet that quick). Making a move -things to do. TakeCare and keep well, love Lizzxx

Morning all, Hope you all had a good weekend. Lovely weather down here, England at its best! Just found that the gang is meeting up in Bristol on Saturday, hadn't spotted the thread before, and I'm tied up, grrr! Anyway, hope they have a good time. Have been bending my mind to absorb some FH stuff my cousin sent recently, apparently a tree going back from the C19th to the C3rd! Can't say I believe it all, although a lot of it looks possible on the face of it. Anyway, have been trying to relate the later stages of it, to tie in with some of my earliest stuff from the modern tree. Problem of changing surnames, complicated by the probable use of Welsh patronymics. (For the un-Welsh among us, this is when sons used the form ap (= Scottish Mac - son of) instead of an English style continuing surname.) In my case, I have a Charles Pugh, son of Hugh Cadwallader, son of Cadwallader, son of Pugh, son of Pugh etc. Mind blowing, isn't it! Translate this into patronymics, and what we get is: Charles ap Hugh, son of Hugh ap Cadwallader, son of Cadwallader ap Hugh, son of Hugh ap Hugh, etc. Not much more help than previously, but at least looks a bit more logical. If I can make this stick, it could take us back to the C16th, time of Elizabeth I. Let you know how I get on. Probably end up in the Tower, lol! Philip

Hello Eveyone, Hope you all had a good easter with lots of eggs. Just got home from work to find a pile of letters and at the bottom were two from the hospital- 2 appointments in one week-not looking forwards to either. My daughter is getting ready to go out with hubbie and i to see THE GAMES which is being shown on channel 4, we are picking hubbie up from work and then going down to Sheffield-she is so excited-keeps shouting what time are we going and all i say is shortly. i am hoping that there isn`t much traffic on the roads-fridays i hate everyone seems to be in more of a rush. Had some bad news this week- one of my dogs has got a tumour in his throat and the vet said it is inoperable-it was so hard to tell my daughter-her face when i told her- i went off to my room and sobbed. The Vet couldn`t say how long he`s got- such a lovely dog-everyone that we know loves him to bits. Was given some seriods for him and the difference in him- you would thing hes` a puppy again jumping all over the place. Today the weather has been lovely and the forecast for the weekend is good-looks like time in the garden-goody the grass has grown so much and the weeds seem to be appearing- a friend has said about using bark- chipping to keep them at bay, will give them a try. Saw a squirrel again this morning running away with a fatball i put out for the birds-cheecky thing has managed to open the feeder a friend gave me. Must make a move, Love to all, Lizzx p.s. Ann i hope you are o.k. - will e over the weekend.

It's overcast here at the minute ,so i think i will leave the back lawn until the weekend, and even then i may leave it until dusk ,because i can ,in my minds eye see the curtains up and down the street twitching as soon as i get the mean ,green machine out again,i think i may transplant a few pansy seedlings before i go to the hospital for my Physio, cause i will be in no fit state to do any work when i come home. I am getting used to sitting outside the garden door whilst i have my morning cuppa ,and the birds have already accepted me ,and have taken to ignoring me unless i am really close, and the jackdaw comes onto the table and trys to nick my biscuits,he has no chance ,no one gets those. i have the beef ,and ham in the oven roasting ,and the turkey crown is ready to go in as they come out,so all i have to do tomorrow is cook the veg ,gravy and yorkshire,i find that it makes for a more stress free day,if that's possible ,when the brood descends on Liz and myself. Sunday we are going up to the daughters ,so at least one day is a no cooking day ,yipee. Have a good day all,i expect to be back later ,if i don't get hijacked by the missus, who has taken to wandering round the house ,nodding her head here and shaking it there,i know what it means of course, more jobs for Fred, HELP. Morning all, Dawn's right, it's lovely and sunny here this morning, apparently the forecast should be good over the weekend? Friends coming down tonight, so hope so, then we can take them out to show them the scenic delights, probably Padstow and parts Cornwall this time. Glad I gave the lawn its first mow the other day, as it's thrown down since. Know your problem with green molehills. Fred, though not caused by the same reason, lol! A 'high' prune this time to level it all off, I'll get down to some serious cutting next time! Took the car through the car wash the other day, it looked really good. However, just one trip into Barnstaple the following day, after it had rained, and it now looks like the proverbial sh**theap again! Can't win! Took Paula down to Exeter yesterday afternoon for her uro-dynamic test. The lady there said it's one of the worst cases she's seen, although Seamus (her gynaecologist) did a fantastic job on the earlier repair to cure her stress incontinence problem. Not a drop spilled this way. She entirely agrees with Paula that the best solution is to have it out, folks who've had the op in recent years have gone on to enjoy a much better quality of life. Off to see my sister later, who's still trying to sort out her life. Should have been a professional counsellor, lol! Have a good weekend, everyone, and a happy Easter to you all, Philip

badger Report 23 Mar 2005 17:43

Well ,i did get the hedges finished ,and did do the lawns [after a fashion],and before i tell you what i did ,i must point out that i have never used a rotary mower before and plead insanity. I duly got out the leads that i had changed the plugs on ,and they worked a treat ,but about here things sort of went pear shaped. I connected the mower to the mains ,found out how to fix the grass box in place, and away the mower and i went. The mower soon started to make noises like a cow with belly ache, and spitting out clumps of grass all damp and soggy.again making the same noises only worse,so by the time Fred gets halfway round the lawn there are a load of green molehills and the lawnmower has overheated and cut out twice. I then notice that the lawnmower grassbox is'nt filling properly ,and put it down to the grass being damp, and then i twig that something is really wrong because the grass in the box[what there is of it]is bone dry, soooooo,Fred switches off ,takes off the grassbox and blushes with shame, dohhhh, who has forgotten to lift the safety trapdoor before fitting the box.Yeeesssss i can hear you all chortling and sniggering so i'm off before i shame myself further, but i won't be making that mistake again, thank the lord the grandkids wer'nt here to see me ,senior moment had nothing to do with it.At least the rest of the day has gon to plan ,so far.Fred.Ptfg.&a&g&s

Hubby went to a funeral today and thought it's funny there's no one here --it wasn't till he got home he got the wrong week!!!! Shouldn't laugh but that's life and getting old!!! Morning all ,thought i would add a few words before i start out side and move this thread up at the same time.My missus is really spoiling me ,with jobs, lol i have my orders for the day,cut the lawns for the first time this year ,finish trimming the hedges ,carry on with the building of the new patiowhich will take sometime, and to cap it all i need to move the workshop further over the garden wall so that i can get another car into the drive when we have visitors, cause the road isso narrow thad the community bus has trouble getting past parked cars. I was at the sons yesterdaymorning and sorted out the rather unsavoury postman ,who has a horrible habit of putting his fingers through the letter box and teasing the puppy. I was waiting behind the door ,and when he did it again i raked both sets of finger nails down his and made an impression of a big dog bark,it seemed to work ,i heard him squeal ,and shoot of up the drive so i don't think he will do it again. I hate to see animals misstreated ,but there again ,i have just done the same lol. Well i'm off ,i can hear the mower calling my name [sigh] ,no rest for the wicked .Fred.Ptfg.&a&g&s.
