My Mum and Dad are (hopefully) together in the afterlife. My mother-in-law is about 40 miles away from us. My brother and his family are about 5 miles away, as are my elder son & his family and my younger daughter and her son. Elder daughter is about 7 miles away with her husband and daughter. Younger son still living at home with us. Brother-in-law lives about 80 miles away (who said not far enough? LOL) and one niece lives in Greece (I think), another near Blackpool somewhere and a third in Bedfordshire when I last heard. Sue xx |

My parents are 50 miles away but moving near us next year. My son's 200 miles away on a camp and returning on Friday. My daughter's the other side of the world until the end of August. Youngest daughter's in bed and hubby's in his usual place parked on the sofa glaring at me because I'm still on here! Daisy |

Just want to add to my rather sad previous reply re quarrel with son. He has made a handsome apology, loves me dearly, thinks I am amazing, so everything is now hunky dory! Hope that all others who are estranged will soon be the same... XX BC |

I live with my husband, Daughter and Mum. My Dad lives about 23 miles away, my son lives in Denmark with his girlfriend, we speak on the phone at least once a week.... I don't know how many miles away it is but it's too far. Still he's happy and that's what counts. :-) |

My parents & lovely husband are on the other side but really close. My brother is in Yorkshire but I'm not supposed to know that. My sister is in NZ & we keep in touch by phone & occasionally by email when I can persuade her to give it a go. Son & daughter in law & four granchildren are in Surrey Eldest daughter & son in law & two grandsons are in Bucks. My baby & her husband are in Essex. I love living in Taunton but I do wish the grandchildren were closer so I could do my share of babysitting. Vivienne |

Lily - you can't build bridges with someone who doesn't acknowledge your existence. Not all arguments are easily solved. It only works if BOTH sides want to play ball. |

My 3 married children live within walking distance of my home. My brother just over the road, 1 sister in the next street to mine, another sister in walking distance. But my other brother lives in Dorset, which is a long way from suffolk, and my other sister lives about an hour and a half away, near Lowestoft. Shirley Ann. |

Only child (son) in Chicago, 8.5 hours on a plane from Manchester, not a trip I want to do too often (6'1' and can only afford Economy!). But e-mail keeps us in touch... Sister an hour away but she might as well be abroad, for the amount of time we see each other! Plenty of in-laws within 8 miles, but it's not the same. Interesting, reading your stories - those of you within half an hour of close family, be glad! Those in conflict - try to build bridges, before it's too late... Lily |
