I was out for half an hour too. Could eventually use everything but the Boards. Strangely, the minute I mailed GR - cutting and pasting the blasted 'Happy Genes' message, I got straight back in again. Would have thought all the aggravation a few weeks back would have at least jogged them into letting us know if they intend to mess about with the servers or something = and at what time, so we can all have a kip for half an hour LOL Jan xx

Yes I contacted support as well, and then got straight back in. I didn't cut and paste though, far too complicated for me!

Well, I got in at 9.16pm my time 2.16am your time. It took about 15 mins from first trying - to actually being able to see the whole board. Then I once again managed to make my coffee while waiting for this page to open. Jacquie xxxx Am I fed up?? What do you think!!!!

Quit griping! It happens on all boards - some more expensive than this. When too many people try to use something at the same time - what else do you expect. Not all people post but there are hundreds of us that browse. Try the chat board - which is where chat should take place.

I find it daunting whenever I get an email saying I have a message on the friends reunited or genes that I press on the link to access it. Its a long long link via Aus site when it's on the UK site. In total, it can take anything up to 10 mins to access it, then log into the site. I am not saying all at f/G reuntited do it because I get the one where it is a shorter link access to go directly without singing in. It's the long link via Aus site that really bugs me.

If everyone had to pay to become a member, then there would be far less people 'browsing' the site and slowing it down and far more money to keep it running smoothly! Now am I sensible, or am I sensible?? Bev x

Paul (Tigger) Report 4 Aug 2005 07:27

Bev But then they would be posting rather than browsing would this not make things worse Paul

Rupert Report 4 Aug 2005 07:36

Granma, we are all entitled to our opinion and whilst I am a tolerant sort of guy it is people like you that accept things in life when in reality you should be protesting. If you do not like people protesting at the inadequacies of the Topics board etc then perhaps you should use the Chat board. Most of the complaints are well founded and have been going on for months. On several occassions it has taken me 15miutes and more to get onto the site. If as one person has pointed out it may be non paid up members causing the problem then GR should consider banning the casual browser and let paid up members get on with it Rupert Bear.

Guinevere Report 4 Aug 2005 07:48

Grandma, It doesn't happen on all sites. This is the only site I have regular problems with. Ancestry and other sites let you know when there is a temporary problem. I use ebay a lot - which has more traffic than this site - and never have any problems browsing their pages or accessing the site. And I'll carry on griping until GR give us what we pay for. Gwynne

Erikoinen Report 4 Aug 2005 07:57

Good morning Paul I believe you have made an erronous presumption in your post at 07:27 in that you assume all the non-paying members will become paying members and post messages. surely if they wanted to post messages they would have paid their subscription and become paid up members already. The act of preventing unpaid members from browsing would more likely drive them away from the site rather than entice them in, however having said that paid-up members on GR would not benefit by losing these non-paid up members as GR's advertising strength would be reduced accordingly. This in turn would prevent further investment in upgrading the site. A catch 22 situation. Ken

I cannot belive that 'volume of traffic' in the early hours(BST) could be the explanation .Surely there were more people active on here at say 8pm than there were in the early hours? Jess

I get fed up with the 'I'm all right, Jack!' attitude of members who appear never to experience problems in using this site, while others of us have constant difficulties with it. If we don't complain, neither GR, nor other members, will know the extent of the problems, and as GR appear to be too busy to acknowledge individual complaints most of the time (in my own experience and that of others), there's no other way of informing them. This is a board for discussion of 'General Topics', and the 'general' opinion seems to be that the site needs to be improved and that improvement needs to be sustained. If a few members are fortunate enough not to be inconvenienced, then lucky old them, but they shouldn't expect the rest of us to just sit and 'button it' when we have problems with the site. Most of them aren't shy of complaining when something else annoys them. CB >|<
