Liz, just as you have had a funny few days so has your cat, the problem is you know whats now happening, she doesn't understand, she must think she did some thing naughty to be sent back to the dog from hell, take time to be quiet round her and as 'n' when give her lots of fuss, she will settle down again, give her time, good luck. Hi everyone, Oh dear... Ellie behaved very strangely last night, darting around and scratching anytime anyone went near her. I put her with all her things in the garage overnight, as I did before, thinking she would settle down. Unfortunately she is even worse this morning, tearing around like a mad thing and behaving aggressively to anyone who approaches her. And she threw up her breakfast. What is going on? She was fine with us when we had her before. Liz x |

Hi everyone, Thank you all for your good wishes and kind words. I told Ros (Ellie's Mum) that they are more than welcome to come around anytime they want, and I will keep them updated with her progress - I thought send the occasional photo, and Christmas card etc, together with any interesting news. I must admit she has been very unsettled and cross since coming back, but that is unsurprising after what she's been through. And she hates her collar, she keeps trying to chew it off. Do you think I should take it off or will she get used to it eventually? Her previous family never put her a collar on because she wouldn't let them, but I got the vet to do it on Tuesday. Liz x |

Liz, Hi, just catching up with the threads at the mo. We have 5 cats, all rescue ones or strays. One of them, Pepper, was actually abandoned when some neighbours split up and the husband, who was supposed to re-home their cats, just left him wandering the streets. This was from a reliable source. Pepper eventually turned up in our garden and the rest is history. ANYWAY, what this is leading to is: when the ex-wife found out she was horrified and very upset, so every now and then we invite her to visit Pepper. Although she gets a little weepy, she knows he's got a good home and she's very appreciative of that. As Ellie's former family are still fond of her, do you think it possible that you could invite them over now and then, as long as it didn't unsettle her? Just for a coffee or something (don't know how far away they live). Just a suggestion :-) Also, you mentioned that Ellie's got a temper, according to the vet, was it? Well, when we took our latest addition to the vet's for a microchip, the vet took one look at Topsy and said 'Tortoiseshells are notoriously bad-tempered, you know'. Er, no, Topsy's always been gentle with us, said I. Anyway, Mrs Vet put the huge needle with microchip into Topsy's neck and did the fur fly! It must have hurt her like hell. Mrs Vet threw me a knowing look, and said 'there, what did I tell you?' All of our cats HATE going to the vets, no wonder they're bad-tempered there! So don't worry about Ellie; she just got a whiff of vet and didn't like it, lol. Good luck Liz, and give Ellie a bit of catnip from me. Ta! x |

Hi Lisa and Jude, The lady is going to ring me at 10 past 5 to tell me her decision. I am soooo nervous, I can't sit still lol. Please keep all fingers and toes crossed for me. It is not that she wants to lose the cat, its just that Ellie was so much happier with us as her Jack Russell is constantly chasing it around. When she arrived to collect her yesterday, Ellie was asleep on my bed. The lady said that would never happen at her house because the dog won't let her on the beds. She is doing it purely for the cat's sake. If I had said 'No' she would have kept her. She does seem to genuinely care for her which is why I feel a bit guilty. Liz x |

Thank you Shirley and Julie, I feel very reassured about it all now. Just waiting to hear from Ellie's Mum about whether she is coming back or not. My daughter will be made up if she is - she broke her heart last night and this morning. Liz x |

Hi Yes kittens usually the better age to introduce when there is another cat already in residence,& as Ellie is a girl she will prob want to mother them anyway. There will prob be a bit of hissing & putting in place of the kittens but she will be fine once she establishes with them that she is in charge. Cats protection will be fine as long as your home is the standard they want for rehoming. I found them very understanding & friendly when they did my home visit. they will give you advice too on how to blend all cats tog. Good luck. Shirley |

Liz It all depends on the cat. I have four (well three and a kitten). Coco was three when we got her and (although didn't know it at the time) was a week pregnant. Unfortunately we couldn't keep any of them at the time but since then we got Taz (at 16 weeks, now 6) and Angel (9 weeks, now 22weks) and she has been fine with both of them from the start. Mynx who was 7 months when we got her about a month before Coco took about a month before she stopped growling or hissing at them. With Ellie and kitten/s arriving at same time both will be settling in so probably will be ok. Just expect some possible hissing and spitting for a bit until they get used to one another. Can't see any reason why CP won't let you have another cat especially if it's a kitten which get accepted more easily by other cats than grown cats (that's my experience anyway, Coco would never accept a grown cat, we found that out when we looked after another cat for a few days in our house). Good luck, I wish you well. Juliexx |
