Claire, Silly mid on is a fielding position, as is Silly mid off. You have the pitch where the batsmen are playing, and the area to one side of the pitch is known as the Off side (hence fielding positions such as mid-off, silly mid-off), whereas the other side of the pitch is known as the On side or Leg side (hence fielding positions such as Long Leg, Short Leg, Mid On etc) A team has 11 players, a batting side is 'all out' when the bowling/fielding side has taken 10 wickets, i.e. 10 batsmen are out. There has to be two batsmen out there at all times, so one batsmen will technically remain 'not out', once 10 wickets have been captured.. |

Andy So what is 'silly mid on' then? Have i got it right here....if the bowling side get 10 of the batting men out then they are all out? |

Claire (Lincs Claire, that is) Yeah, if a bowler takes a wicket, either by knocking his stumps over (or dislodging the bails on the stumps), or being caught by a fielder, or trapped lbw (leg before wicket) in front of his stumps, then the batsman is out. If the score at the time was 50 for no wicket (also written as 50-0) then that means the bowling/fielding side hasn't got any of the batsmen out. However, if the bowler takes a wicket then the score would become 50 for 1 (50-1), which means 50 runs scored for the loss of one wicket. The bowling/fielding side has to take 10 wickets in that innings then the batting side are all out. The crease is just where the batsmen stands in readiness for the bowler to bowl a ball at him. |

So is a wicket a man then? And what exactly is 'the crease'? |

Clare, Don't worry, my mate at work is an Anderson fan, I'm not sure I've convinced him with my argument either! Bell's problem seems to be getting started, hence the single figure scores. Certainly hasn't been able to get settled, though you probably have to give credit to the Aussies there. I don't think they will discard him yet, but he will have to sort himself out soon with the likes of Robert Key still in the back of the selectors minds. |

Clare, LOL, so does Anderson know how to bowl a 'maiden' over? I'm pretty certain that Anderson would have been feeling more than just a few nerves, the moment he would have been first tossed the ball to bowl, had he been picked to play. Personally, I just think he wouldn't have been able to cut it mentally, for a one-off game as huge as this. We've seen before that once the pressure gets to him, he loses his confidence and his bowling then looks all over the shop. We'll see how it all shakes out anyway. I agree about Bell & Pietersen - I think Bell has only managed 3 double figure scores all summer. Whilst Kev is going to get himself into trouble on those turning wickets in India & Pakistan this winter if he's not careful. |

Clare, PMSL, Collingwood wasn't there long enough to look nervous! He got an unlucky lbw, but the Aussies have had a few dodgy lbws throughout the series, so it's always swings and roundabouts. |

Lisa My other half plays cricket and a couple of years back they got absolutely trounced. Nothing unusual there I hear you say! Apart from the opposing team included two girls and a one armed man! Honest! lol |

319-7. Well, the Flintoff/Strauss partnership rescued the innings but to finish the day seven wickets down is far from ideal. The tail-enders will have to contribute something tomorrow, a lot rests on Geraint Jones as those below him in the order have looked clueless against Warne throughout the series. We'll be doing well to reach 400 from here, which is more like the score we need. |

I reckon we just have the edge today, things were looking pretty ropey when the 4th wicket went down, then Freddie came in, steadied the boat . Strauss played a brilliant innings, throughout, pity they couldn,t stay till stumps, well ! thats cricket! Hope it don,t rain friday I,ll be happy with 4000, I mean 400 cliff |

Well Bec, don't want to tempt fate ... but we seem to have weathered the storm for the moment. Basically we need to score as many runs as we can - hopefully near to or above 500 - then try and skittle them out for a paltry total!! Maz. XX |
