Friends, just wanted to say how interesting your comments have been on this thread. Things are quite tense here tonight, and from what I have just heard, are not likely to improve tomorrow. I live in an area, where my neighbours - and friends, are of both religions, and few are supportive of what is happening. Our lives are being disrupted again - mainly by thugs! Tomorrow I do not know if my children will get to school, the buses stop and they are stranded five miles from home. My son has had to leave his part time job early tonight - they were ordered to close. Out on the main road a delivery driver was beaten and his car burnt, by morning there will be more people left without transport because of this nonsensical destruction. I have an extra car in the drive tonight - a workmate of my son can't risk going home tonight, she cant get to the area she lives in. I feel so sad when I look around me tonight - and I think you are right most of those causing this havoc wouldn't have a clue what it is all about! God Bless Anne

Pat - I too am off to bed - however although no lover or admirer of Paisley or any of the other politicans I have to say that today Ian Paisley condemmed the events of the past few days. Ann

God Bless you Anne and I hope you have a quiet night tonight - there is no rhyme nor reason to it - I have always tried to tell people that it is a minority on both sides - - as they used to say in N.I. - they'll neither work nor want. All everyone else wanted was peace and quite, the right to work and to raise their children. Ann

Ann I am pleased that Ian Paisley condemned the behaviour so he should say something. Thank you for an interesting discussion its interesting to discuss such a subject without people getting overheated this thread proves it can be done. Oh and I have just noticed your reference to Dirty Dicks at Liverpool Street, I frequented there loads of times, lucky I didn't see what you did as I agree with you, no matter who the bullets would be for i would not agree with that. Anne, My thoughts are with all the many good people who have for so long had to endure such horrific events as you do. In 2005 this should not be allowed to be happening to Communities such as yours who have suffered so many years of this and I do hope all comes to a peaceful end very soon. I hope tonight you and your family can get a good nights sleep and tomorrow will be brighter for you all. Take care and thank you too. One Love Pat x

Anne, May you in some way have a peaceful night. I hate to say this though --- this is deep sectarianism that will never go away no matter how many peace talks there are. The solution? wish I had it.. Personally my answer would be ----- get in reality! Stop living in the past King Billy and all that crap --- if your in a pub together here -- do you go I'm Catty/ I'm Proddy??? NO My wish ---- stop it now x A really good debate though --

Oh no you are not lol I am known as the Perennial thread killer and thats that. I have just answered your enquiry on the other thread. Thanks for the excellent discussion, only problem was I found because we were all typing at the same time I missed a few comments but read them back later, & things got slightly disjointed from my perspective, still it was excellent to discuss such a subject on here as this board has had so little of serious discussions and debates lately & thats a shame there should be room for all subjects silly & fun & serious not just one of them, which has been just the silly and fun. Well guys.... sorry I missed the rest of this, I have just had a very enjoyable read though, agree, disagree whatever we all have our own perspective on the same issue. I have learnt some things reading through and that's good.... never to old to learn or admit there were facts you didn't know. Although there were some I did. Anne I hope you have a peaceful night and I would offer my hope of a peaceful future.... like Pat I don't do prayers.... but my thoughts will be with you this night. Take care. So I am the thread killer!!!! Well done you lot!!! Jacquie xxxx

Jacquie As the thread killer who was not only supposed to be doing something else early evening but got caught up in this, I am also supposed to be in the bed at this time, just want to say I was enjoying our thread with lovely CB about colonialists and the Caribbean and funny really it follows the same line the Scottish one, coincidence? I did have some things written, I was working on the computer with stuff and lost loads when my Microsoft word crashed retrieved some but most has disappeared, have plenty more work to finish for stuff I have promised but I would love to continue some kind of discussion on the Caribbean. I haven't checked but I do hope you did not get rid of that thread, it would be a shame. Anyway I better be off with myself now, as there is no one else up lol (thing that is a funny expression) Night Jacquie and Ginny thanks for reading I am hoping Anne will let us know how she is in the morning :-) I miss Anne In Selhurst, bet she is sad to see what is happening where you are Anne, you are in my thoughts. Goodnight Pat x

~ Oleander Report 13 Sep 2005 04:53

The thread is still around Pat... only deleted that one the other day because it was personally upsetting me... and until I deleted no one was particularly interested anyway, shouldn't have put it up that close to the anniversary of Ivan! Apart from that I never delete threads... GR's work if they care to!! lol I would enjoy carrying it on some time. Jacquie xxxx

I've just read this thread thru twice!! Surely one of the most potentially volatile issues ever debated/discussed on this board? and done so in a most informative, respectful and as already noted, eloquent manner by all involved. What a pleasure and a privelage to read. To Anne in Belfast and all the people of the beautiful province of Ulster, once visited and always remembered for the warmth and kindness shown to a stranger, of both North and South, Roman Catholic and Protestant ancestry. I wish you peace. Patty x

Sadly they are resorting to what the IRA.did to get what they wanted.Tony Blair surrendered to armed Insurection in our Country,So the So Called 'Loyalists'are trying the same tactics,an hoping for the same.As for the 'Marching season'Why oh Why can they not just treat it as a 'Mardi Gra' and all enjoy it.
