Pat - I'm so sorry to hear you have lost your beloved pets - I know just how distressing it can be - I lost one of my cats at 8yrs old to feline aids - heartbreaking. ((HUGS)) |

Pat Hallelujah! I too prefer the 'discussion' threads so I know where you are coming from. I have had a laugh at some of the silly threads these past few weeks (and joined in quite a few) but found some to be so inane I can't believe what I'm reading! Anyway, my main reason for replying is I'm sorry to hear your news - I know how you feel - I lost a dog and a cat in quick succession while going through a very painful divorce - life seems to hit very hard at times I'm afraid. Hope you can soon pick yourself up and thank you for putting your thoughts on here - I for one admire you for that. Debby |

Pat, I'm really sorry to hear you've lost your cat as well as your dog. You've had a huge basinful of problems this year, and nobody can blame you for feeling miffed about goings on here. You have a great sense of fun and we've had many a laugh, as well as discussed serious subjects, together. I agree, it is a shame when you're bored or need cheering up to get here and find it's boring or there's a row going on, but the answer is (I think) to start your own discussion thread or put up a quiz. You know so much about music, you'd have no trouble doing that. Give it a go and see. All the best, me old china, and take care! CB >|< XX |

Scenario I like both threads that is the funny ones and serious ones, but I prefer serious, so myself & like minded others who like a little serious flood the place with them, someone comes home looking for fun all they see is serious. Think someone might say something about that, don't you? I am going through the worst year I have had not just healthwise but at this very moment my cat is being put down, he has suffered feline aids for a couple of years and its now gone to the stage where he can't walk properly so it's his time, he was 12 in April. My dog died a week after I came out of the Hospital (the second time). I came on these boards many evenings looking for something different but there was nothing. This is not aimed at one particular thing, thread or member but snide remarks and nasty comments DO NOT a discussion make. Thank you once again for all the intelligent contributions here I appreciate other people's thoughts and I am delighted that people have added them here. Thank you once again, I won't be back for a couple of hours as I need to bury my Cat. Pat x |

Hi Pat How ya doing mate? Now as you know I enjoy a good laugh and a silly thread as much as the next person, but I do agree with you in part. Thread after thread on the same silly subject does get a bit tedious, especially when it takes up virtually all of the front page. And especially when you are not taking part yourself. The reason I don't join in with these threads isn't because I'm a party pooper, but because I don't feel I 'fit in'. And if the whole page is full of threads where I don't 'fit in' then there's nothing for me to join in with! I don't know why I don't feel I fit in really because I chat to, and get along with, the vast majority of the people on these threads. I just don't understand the 'in' jokes most of the time! I do believe that everybody is entitled to post what they want, but at the same time I think they should be considerate of other board users. As for constant name changes - it doesn't really bother me that much. You can quite often tell who somebody is anyway by the way they type, express themselves etc. It's like their personality comes through with what they write. Anyhow, if somebody is teasing and won't tell us who they are, I usually get bored and move onto summat else! lol Jeanette x |

Wendy, The thing is, you changed your name last night for the purpose of that one thread - I did too - and it was still obvious who you were (or I thought so anyway). Don't have a problem with that at all - it's the 5 different name changes in a week, with no name attached that irritates me. Paul |

The board is for everyone to post general subjects, whether it be sensible or daft. Occasionally 2 people (or more) post similar threads, that's not a problem, there's room for all. I for one don't mind someone posting a similar thread to mine at the same time. However I must agree that of late one thread is put and several more threads on the same subject crop up, a bit like a spider and its legs. Often it is the result of one silly thread and others adding their own varieties of the thread instead of replying on the one. As for the name changing... (the constant name changing not the very occasional) Its confusing, and to me (and others)its not funny. Especially if the person doesn't sign their name at the end of the posting, and does it to keep everyone guessing who they are. Its childish and I daren't go into it as everyone knows my feelings on constant name changes. Elaine x |

Following on from my previous post, I'd just like to add that I don't really care too much who I talk to on this Board. It's not important to me to know someone's name, as the name means nothing to me anyway, unless I've met the person concerned or had lengthy email correspondence with them. If anyone's that curious as to who I am, take a look at the GCPhotospage - but don't expect too much! I'll enter a discussion with anyone, if I feel I have something to say, and I hope everyone feels they can 'talk' to me. I don't appreciate the unpleasant posts that have been aimed at me in the past, but I can deal with those if necessary. One of my pet hates is being dictated to, so I don't do it to others, and if anyone reads something I've written and disagrees with it, then there's no reason for them not to say so. If I don't like somebody, I'm perfectly capable of avoiding them, and I don't see why others can't do the same. Same goes for threads. I have no interest at all in the majority of threads I see on this Board, so I don't post on them. I've had some great laughs and some serious discussions on here with people I don't know from Adam (or Eve), and if they want to call themselves Robin Hood or Cleopatra one day and Hamlet or Marilyn Monroe the next, so what? Who does it harm? As to 'in jokes', I don't understand lots of things I read on this Board, and it is very obvious that people 'talk' to their friends on threads. What else are we all supposed to do? It would all get very disjointed and be very impersonal if we didn't. I have no idea who Lemon Nelly is in real life, but it doesn't prevent me enjoying banter with her on the Board. If you feel left out when others are having jokes or discussions between themselves, remember that they probably feel exactly the same when they see you 'talking' to your Board friends. CB >|< |

Hi Pat and everyone, I've lost count of the number of times I've said that I think there is room for everyone on the General Boards. I still believe this but perhaps we all need to be considerate of others and not fill the front page with threads on the same subject and to let the fun threads die a natural death. Some do seem to go beyond their sell-by date. We are all amused by different things some 'funny' threads haven't even raised a smile as far as I'm concerned but that doesn't mean that people shouldn't post them - just, perhaps, not fill the board with them. I've been a member a long time and have, at times, found the boards tedious and at other times I've laughed aloud. I need to remember that my idea of tedious is another person's enjoyment and be tolerant. And those who do not share my sense of humour and find my humour tedious should alllow me my mad half hour in return. It's a shame that people have pm'd Pat and don't feel able to comment 'aloud.' It is possible to disagree without name-calling and falling out as many of us have found. I'm not around much at the moment because I have loads of work on and do feel a bit left out, what with identity changing etc, but as long as I know 'who' I'm talking to I can catch up. I have known GR much 'worse' than it is currently ................... lol, Gwynne |
