I think it wrong for any one of us to try telling other members what can or can't be posted. As long as there is no malice, what gives any member more rights to make decisions on here than others. We need to all remember the word EQUAL and stop trying to play BOSS. If this offends then I am sorry but I get fed up with the minority on here who ruin it and cause upset to others..... there said my piece.

I have had a reply to my mail to GR asking about the future of the General Board following a comment and correspondence with another member of GR. Sadly, The General Board (I don't know about the others) will be discontinued in favour of the Connections site. Apparently because members have asked for chat rooms and have complained about the slowness of the board. Has anyone actually BEEN onto that site? Yes there is a genealogy section - but you would have to be on there all day trying to find anything that was relevant to you....and as for the chat rooms and the chat section on the discussion board - best left alone - even that marked for the over 50's!!! This will mean an end to the serial threads - and no I am not just mourning the loss of The Village - I rather like Grot. too! This board has been the best on the net for getting together informally and now...whatever....whoever has won - it's going! I have asked when this is likely to take place - I'll let you know! Mags x

Thanks for telling us that Mags. I'm sorry to hear it but in a way it's good timing for me as my subs run out next month. I'm getting nowhere with contacts from this site so I mostly come here for this board apart from the occasional look up or tip.

Dont we, as members, have any say in this matter I wonder? I think it would be quite sad if we lost the General Board and as for Connections, well as you say Mags, a waste of space and time....Surely we can do something? BC

I went on there this afternoon after receiving the mail - you can used your GR log in. The words used, now I look at the reply again is 'message boardS to a specialist site' - so it looks as if they will all go. BC - I think it's a done deal. When they bow to customer demand - which customers are they talking about? Those that had no gripes wouldn't have contacted them - so we had no voice! Mags x

Well, if the boards are going, it wont matter if i get booted off Mags. Im happy to put a thread or three up! Have emailed GR btw.

It will be sad if this topic board goes, as in general it is a good place to be....it also means posing a lot of people who you have got used to having about gone...even if it is virtual...Genes should poll us to see what we want...or don't they give a toss!

Sorry Jenny, just digressing here. David, are you really leaving? That's not gone down too well with me, lol. I must say I'm really disappointed to hear that. :-( Hopefully you'll be keeping in touch via Cuzzie. x

I've only just caught up with this. There has to be something we can do. I know I'm sad but living alone I spend a lot of time on here. I do have friends in Taunton but not that I can chat to & debate with every day as I can with my virtual friends. I certainly couldn't act daft as I have today. I have looked at the Chat board & Connections & they are definitely not for me. Time for a pettition, I would organise but it needs someone who is confident with cut & paste. A thread with just a title & purpose message followed by just a list of names, not messages, of all who agree. When enough names have been added cut, paste & send to GR management. Vivienne

Vivienne We got up a huge petition when we heard Genesconnected was to be renamed Genesreunited. It didn't make a single jot of difference and I think that was a smaller issue than the removal of the boards! Bev x

Vivienne I feel the same as you - this board has been my saviour over the past couple of months even tho I have been a member for more than a year. This is like my social club - I can come in anytime of the day and find a handful of friends to chat with - it's kept me sane and on some days given me the will to live lol............... I will be lost without you all :O(
