Jenny a brilliant Idea I only hope GB gets around the UK in time after seeing all the photos on GB picture page what a tour she has had so far Howardxx

Mommylonglegs Report 2 Oct 2005 13:34

Gaynor Bear will complete her UK tour, and that includes Scotland Jill, before doing the Sahara Trek. If GB has not completed her tour, then she will not do the Trek. This was made clear when it was first suggested that GB tries to go. We presumed when deciding on a date for the big meet up that the Sahara trekers would be back by then. Plese correct me if we were wrong. Jenny x

According to Pink's Pages, the Sahara Trek takes place between 11th and 19th MARCH 2006. Unless the Trekkers join the Foreign Legion, they'll be back in the UK well before this proposed Gaynor Bear Relay anniversary meet on 23rd APRIL! CB >|<

CB I certainly hope we will be back by then!! The problem is not that we are still away, but that we have something else important booked for that weekend. Yvette

Oh well, it was only a suggestion. I don't really care where it is or when, and as I'm not going on the Sahara Trek, what Sahara Trekkers have planned doesn't concern me. I've contributed a bit of cash towards it, but that's all. Far more people have been involved in the Bear Relay than are going on the Trek, and the idea of this reunion being held centrally was to enable more of those people to attend. I certainly haven't participated in the Bear Relay solely for Gaynor's sake. I only met her once, but I admired her greatly and was very sad that she suffered so much and is no longer with us. I worked on the Relay for months for my own reasons - to raise awareness of the work of Cancer Research UK, which I've supported for many years because my father suffered from cancer for almost 3 years and died a terrible death. I had to help care for him when he was dying and no more could be done medically for him, despite being only 12 years old, and I'm sorry but that was my reason for doing what I've done with the Bear Relay. It had little to do with Gaynor herself. Yvette, Daisy, who is also going on the Sahara Trek, didn't mention anything about Trekkers having something planned for that weekend in April, and it was she and I who hatched the original idea. Hi Trekkers certainly do have something on for the 22nd but not 23rd and I see no reason not to be able to do both! I think that the 23rd is the right day to have a GB meet and so many people have been involved in this relay that it would be wonderful for as many as possible to come. Daisy

Thanks for letting us know Daisy. I shall still stick to my dates, Saturday 22nd and Sunday 23rd and just hope that those that are going to the 'Trekkers do' Can make the Gaynor Bear relay celebrations on the Sunday as it is the anniversary of the start of the relay. Jenny xx

If quite a few people want to come from Scotland/South Coast. As Elaine(Derbyshire Dancer)said Derbyshire is the most Central point. For a lot of people the train would be best but may need to change trains if it is going to be Brum. Sue

I can't ever get to these meets dotted around the country cos very few allow kids and hubby won't let me travel to anywhere like say London but if its going to be a massive one so I can meet as many people as possible in one fell swoop and its in the midlands then I will come. I don't mind dressing up as a pink bear. No-one will see what I really look like then and thats fine by me.

Sue, I'd have to get a train into London, get on the tube to another London terminus and get a train back out to Birmingham. It won't be an easy journey for me either. Derbyshire would be far more difficult - where in Derbyshire is being suggested? It's a big place. CB >|<

CB For people coming from Glasgow it could end with 5 train changes to get them to Brum. I have no idea where in Derbyshire. But central for everyone is York, most trains go through York. Sue

OK folks. I do realise this is all a little early for some of you to commit yourselves to anything yet. I have started the ball rolling half an hour ago on looking for a venue. Have two posibilities already. But cannot divulge until Tueday, Wednesday at the earliest. First and foremost I am going to need a rough idea as to how many there will be all at one time. So I need to know how many of you are interested, even if only slightly. As soon as possible. I am presuming that the Sunday will be when most can be with us. So I shall need somewhere that can seat that amount of people. Shall I have to hire a room? Thinking of cost of course. Can I find a big enough Pub that serves food. Here are the main points I am looking at. 1. Easy access for all. From Birmingham New Street for all those travelling by train. 2. Easy access for all travelling via Motorways. EG. M1, M5 & M6. 3. For those wishing to stay overnight on the Saturday or the Sunday. Affordable, decent Bed and Breakfast, nearby. 4. A nearby Pub that serves food. I am thinking of somewhere near a certain chain of hotels. Dont ask at present I cannot announce anything on the boards at the moment. All will be revealed soon. Although some of you already know why. You may message me if you are curious. These are the first areas that come to mind. (a) M6 Junction 7. Near the NEC Birmingham. (b) M1 Junction 25. Near Derby town centre. Please remember others areas will be added as soon as I have had another phone call. Jenny.x
