CB, I know where you're coming from with regards 'Stairway To Heaven'. Normally, I hate it, especially say on compilation albums when the most bleedingly obvious song by such and such a band gets chosen when they so could easily have picked any number of other defining songs by the same band. I just think with 'Stairway To Heaven' that it hasn't reached that annoying level of over-exposure for me personally. |

Best Led Zep track for me is Houses of the Holy, but Kashmir comes a very close second. I now loathe Stairway to Heaven - I've heard it too many times, and it still gets played as if it was the only thing they ever did. Physical Graffiti and In Through the Out Door are two of my all-time favourite albums. Such a shame vinyl scratches! CB >|< |

Has anyone mentioned Paul Weller/ The Jam? Going Underground & The Walls Come Tumbling Down are classics (IMHO). Liz x |

Still trying to work out how REM crept onto this list! Have they done a 'Kevin Pietersen/Greg Rusedski'? Don't think Led Zeppelin have been mentioned yet. I know it's an obvious choice but 'Stairway to Heaven' is a great track, IMHO. |

What ALL of them, Paul? I'd be on this thread all day - I've got 50 years of them to add! You did say 'Best' of British, but there have been 'Best' bands in every decade, and of course, as music progressed, what was considered 'good' and 'the Best' has changed a great deal. How do you compare The Shadows (top notch in the 1950s) with Queen? Very difficult. Good thread. Are you going to do a US one as well? CB >|< |
