as some of you know we have 3 british bulldogs.well annie is paralysed and now cannot walk.it has also affected her bowel and bladder movements.therefore she is just weeing and messing when and where she wants. the vet has told us that she wont get any better infact she will only get worse.i am distraught.hubby and i have sat and disgussed her fate for weeks now and have decided that the inevitable will have to be done:( i have just foned the vet and ended up crying ,the vet was fantastic.he knows what annie has been through over the last 2 years.she had a perforated bowel which was caused by her tail growing inwards.hence she had to have a large operation to remove the tail and repair her bowel. the reason she is now paralysed is because the tail contains 7 vertebrae,so without these her spine is incomplete. she has done so well but the time has come to say goodbye. susie |

So sorry to hear that, Susie. You have to do what is best for Annie, but it doesn't make it any easier for you to bear. Carole |

I know how difficult this is but to keep her going any longer would not be in her best interests. You have to put her quality of life above your own sadness. Thinking of you xx |

Big hug for you Susie. I know exactly what you are feeling right now. Last year we had to have Toffee the rabbit put to sleep, and a couple of years ago the same with Katie, our Jack Russell. It rips you apart, as each and every one of them are just like your own kids and you love them so much. |

thankyou all so much for you wonderful words. she is gonna be missed so much, but as you have all said,it is the kindest thing to do. all of our bulldogs are rescue dogs.we have bought them back into tip top condition and they are loved so much. a few years ago we bred shar pei,and with every litter i had to keep one lol i cant imagine my home without a dog or several lol but annie will always be remembered. her appointment is at 5pm tomorrow.the vet has told us he will make her the first appointment of the evening shift so that we wont have to wait with all the others in the waiting room susie |

it is really hard, I had to do the same with my Lucy, having had her for 16 years. I was on my own at the time, and knew the time had some. All i can say is do what you can, and dont beat yourself up when the time comes. I knew i wanted to see it right thru with Lu , but when it actually came down to it, i couldn't stay to the very end. As I walked away my feet wouldn't walk back although my heart wanted to. I loved her too much to be 'in control' of either her, or my emotions at the very very end. Gawd only knows what the people that walked passed the Vets that evening as i sat on the wall thought - and to be honest i dont care. I cried like i had never cried before. Thinking of you Jess x |
