If this is true it's absolutely ridiculous and it takes a lot to make me cross. I shall soon begin to wonder which country I'm living in. Chrissie

Em, You took the word right out of my mouth, political correctness to the extreme :O( I have lived in several countries over the last 20 years, and never have I expected them to adept their culture or their religion to suit mine, sorry but if they are so offended by this why live here? Sheila

When is Father Christmas going to be banned then? Christmas cards will have to stop? Christmas Trees send them all back to Norway and we will save a bomb on presents for the Grandchildren. Ill just say to mine Id like to get you some but the politically correct people will be at my throat so hard luck kids! May as well everybody work straight through Christmas and New Year far less hassle all round. Davexx ps but the muslims dont mind making money over Christmas off us when their shops and Take Aways are open and ours are closed. I am not racist in the least I have many friends of mixed culture but this really pushes things.

Words fail me or should I say I can't put them down for all to see. This is getting ridiculous. What with the St George and Union Jack flags being frowned on and now Christmas what will they stop at. Germaine x

I just cannot beleive it!! Doesn't this council realise they are alienating muslims from the rest of the british public by this act.

I fully agree with Sheila and Fred & the cats. We often hear Britain being described as a MULTICULTURAL nation these days, rather than a Christian one, but that surely doesn't mean that we have to neglect our Christian traditions. Oh....and just one more gripe.... WHY, oh WHY can't the CHRISTMAS lights (and all the rest of CHRISTMAS) be confined to DECEMBER!

Unknown

Unknown Report 2 Nov 2005 11:44

I'm not religious myself, but I'm in full agreement with whats been said here - this is a predominantly Christian country, with long standing traditions - why should this change because of people who follow other faiths ? Do we stop them having their festivals ? NO ! Absolute lunacy Paul (ps, yes I agree about Christmas starting in December NOT October !!!)

I have friends whose son is the only white boy in the school. They managed to persuade the school to hold Hallowe'en by claiming to be Wicca. Oh, and I WILL keep up my Christian Festivals, and I WILL fly my England Flag at appropriate times. Who the hell are these people who can ride roughshod over the feelings of our native population? I am fully in favour of equality, but it seems there are still some who are more equal than others. My motto is 'P.C.? P.O.!'

Ditto to everything Fred said. This world is crazy when will it ever end. I came to Australia from England many years ago, it is a Christian Country and I have never had a problem with that side of things. But when you enter another Country things are always different and you have to adjust your lifestyle, and live the way that country see's things so why can't these idiots have the same respect for England. 'When in Rome do as the Romans do' or doesn't that saying apply any more. Makes me so angry Regards Jackie

Christmas Banned: Muslims offended. Is this really the opinion of the Muslim community? Or is it one or two influential voices who claim to be speaking for them? Maybe my opinion is somewhat simplistic but I'm happy for other religions to celebrate their festivals so long as they respect the right for Christians to celebrate theirs.

marie from stoke Report 2 Nov 2005 12:11

I agree with what most have said, this is a christian country so why oh why should we give up on our traditions to suit the muslims, they dont stop having their festivals for anyone. Whatever next! will we be asked to pull down our churches because they offend? I wont say anymore as I am too angry to say the least, only that the poor soldiers who fought for us past and present will be turning in their graves knowing what they have ended up fighting for. And I am not racial in any way as I have many friends and neighbours of mixed race and religion who would probably agree with all that I have said, so I know it is not all muslims that think they have a right to object to our traditions. You are right Roxanne, I don't think these stupid PC rules do a lot FOR racial relationships. I have, as I am sure many people do, friends of all different backgrounds, religions and cultures who have CHOSEN to live here and embrace the british customs and culture. For the PC brigade to say 'don't celebrate Christmas because it offends some group of people or other actually makes THAT group of people seem selfish and intolerant, which I know is not the case in this instance. Well I will not give up celebrating MY beliefs as I don't expect others to give up theirs.I just wish people would realise what a richly diverse society it is that we live in and enjoy the experience instead of tippy toeing around creating resentment. What right have they got to bleet on about being offended by a few coloured lights, Isnt that very complaining offensive to british people? Who cares what they think anyway,,,I echo Roxanne by saying let them go back to thier own country if they dont like it

Its going the same way there as it is out here.. At my daughters school they had a party for Halloween, though not allowed to be called that, they named it Fall Festive. Chistmas isnt called Christmas its called the Holidays.. my daughter is in the chorus (obviously braver than I am!!) and they have a Holidays concert, but are not allowed to sing any Christmas songs, one year (just before we arrived) the Principal had a complaint that a carol had been sung at this concert and the music teacher threatened to resign because she believes that as long as she puts a song in for all religions then fair is fair.. not the case, as long as they arent about Jesus or god they can be sung!! Surely, this sort of thing will only incite racism. The decision was probably made by one of the 'right on' brigade- a decision which I would imagine is incredibly patronising to the majority of muslims
