If execution isn't carried out within 6 months of sentencing it's very inhumane. When I think of say 16 years ago my recollections quite hazy sometimes (although on occasions lucid) I'm sure as others mentioned they may change and come to truly repent their sins. as a Christian Country some states are quite like the 'Evil East axis of evil' they so despise. I do think, however, we are too woolley in Britain and should be more than a wee bit tougher. Jacquie

Well said Kim because I know your politcal views and they are from opposite side of spectrum to mine , but its nice to agree over a contraversial subject like this , and of course Pat is always right lol! Dx

Yes Pat that is a good reason not to bring back the death penalty in this country. Another reason is that the death penalty can actually lead to an increase in crime because the death penalty desensitises people to violence, and it sends the message that violence is a suitable way to resolve conflicts Particuarly true in America. No I don't think that Saints Alive. Wasn't Timothy Evans executed for killing his family and it was Christie who did it all long? He got a pardon, well that wasn't much good to him. There are more examples but one life wrongly taken by the State is one life too many. Pat x

Hi Twizz, Sorry, but you made a mistake earlier in thinking I am against the death penalty. In fact, if someone is given a life sentence I feel that we should use all our efforts to make that sentence as short as possible. Why should a wronged Society bear the cost of keeping its Pariahs? So, to me, the Life and Death sentences would be one and the same. I do not agree with putting someone on death Row for 15 years. I find that Barbaric. regards, Jim

Saints your getting silly now, The mother of the boy who was murdered in Liverpool with an axe forgave them for their act becuase she is a Christian and not a bitter person, now that is true forgiveness 'To Err Is Human To Forgive his Divine' Dave

Saints you are entitled to your opinions! but you are just speaking hypothetically, The Death sentence has never been a deterrent and never will be! When you execute somebody you are being the same as the purpatrator, plus we also have people executed when innocent! no going back on it when they are gone is there? Dave

Mum puts her coat on and go's to get the milk for her cuppa on route she meets Jack the Trash who is an addict , Jack the Trash is crazy he ain'nt scored for hours he is seeing horrible things but he can also see mums purse so he grabs mum and bangs her head on the wall to try and get the purse but mum wo'nt let go , so he kicks her in the head again and again and again, jeez he thinks I need to score fxxk anything . Mum is dead Jack the Trash got a five pound note ( and did'nt score) Father and son think it is there fault Comments please on the recommended sentence for Jack

I hope no one deletes what they have written it would be a shame to do that. I always feel when people take the trouble & time to add to a thread unless its rude or nasty it should not be deleted. It would be a very boring place if we all agreed on everything I have my views and you have yours I enjoy sharing them. I do believe no one can forget the horrors when someone is killed no matter who they are any innocent life is a tragedy to lose but I do feel the figures that Gwynne has put up speak volumes. I respect your views and I hope you will respect mine & everyone else's. Pat x

Hi Dave is it not the judicial system over there that makes it take so long , they have so many reprieves and such like that people forget . But do the relatives of the murdered person forget no I think not . :-)))))))))))

Im against execution anyway Pat, but I cant see what they get out of executing somebody 15 years later. People can change a lot in that time and can have many regrets. I believe that another one is planned for California shortly and Governer Arnold Swatzenegger has to the power to overule it. The Guy who is facing it now is full of recompense and writes childrens books which are very popular. Davex

Hi Kim with all due respect when I worked in the places I did , I didn't actually see anybody with a clipboard taking notes on the murders and atrocities to record notes for any sort of table . Have you got the stats for how many people were murdered in Uganda whilst the fat man ruined a country . Or how many squaddies and Irish people were murdered whilst the Gulf war was on . In Bosnia people were murdered and tortured , forced out of there homes so other people could move in any stats on that , ??or the babies who were killed there for fun and cruelty or just for being born in the wrong part of the Country. Kim you have your stats , I have my nightmares , that is the difference :-))))))))))

I'm totally against the death penalty. A friend in the US wrote this to me today - 'The average of murder rates among states with capital punishment is 5.1, but the average among states without the death penalty is 2.9. So much for the deterrent effect.' States wth the death penalty have a higher murder rate than those without - so it's not working is it? Gwynne

Hi Gary its good to see you. I shall not try & talk you out of your beliefs it would be useless to try to do so. I cannot change from mine either. I feel It's such a pity a Country professing to be a Christian one can justify State Murder, the same Country that believes in right to march into other Countries & justify it by claiming the leaders to be guilty of murder!!!
