Len, You expressed the point I was hoping to make better than I did. Silly as it sounds now. i am sure that science will develop to prove or disprove the life after death theory. Not many will agree. If it does disprove the theory and when you,re dead you,re dead becomes a reality. i shudder for the conduct of the human race. Perhaps and just perhaps, it was the fear of such anarchy that prompted the thought of a super-natural being and the birth of so many religions which have placed a barrier on human misbehaviour. Hope that doesn,t offend. I consider myself a genuine seeker, but have perhaps expressed myself in a clumsy way. Happy days

William, Punctuation makes a lot. Luke 16:20 And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate , full of sores, 21:And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table;moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. 22. And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abrahams bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried: 23 And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off,and Lazarus in his bosom. etc etc but don't misquote? lol

When Roentgen discovered an unknown energy force 109 years ago, science didn't know what to call it so with Teutonic imagination he thought up 'X-ray' which name is now comfortable to all although, at the time most folk thought it was supernatural against the laws of nature.. A ten-year old cannot imagine what changes in his/her life will take place over the next 5 years but a 15 year-old looking back will look with wonder at the naivety of the 10 year-old. May I suggest that we are in much the same boat as 10 year olds? 50 years ago, electronic tools, mobile phones, calculators, TVs, videos, DVDs and CDs, computers et al would, had anyone envisaged them, been regarded as science fiction. 200 years ago anyone caught with such devices may legally have been burned at the stake. Times change. Even in my lifetime women have been allowed to vote. What is the world coming to? Len

Dorothy I believe it was Tracy Blackburn's thread to which you referred. I had one called 'Ghosts in the head - or bats in the belfrey?' It was based on scientific papers and didn't do so well, probably because scientists, like lawyers, use big words to ensure accuracy in language. Actually, Harry, science is moving very slowly towards acceptance of the supernatural and I really believe that there will be a breakthrough in the forseeable future. I read a lot of scientific journals and you would be surprised at the amount of research being done all over the world Len

Roxanne Report 7 Jan 2006 23:10

mike, I have to say I too believe that souls are not allowed to tell us, We are on this planet to learn from our experieneces if we knew why we were here what would be the point, Only my opinion. Roxanne x

I think I'll just add a bit more - mainly in response to Mike’s comment about the dead not being allowed to come back to tell us what it’s all about… Luke 16: 19-31 [Jesus speaking] 'There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. 'The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.' 'But Abraham replied, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.' 'He answered, 'Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my father's house, for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.' 'Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.' ' 'No, father Abraham,' he said, 'but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.' 'He said to him, 'If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.' ' And Jesus died, rose again – and people do not believe…just as he warned. And we’ve got much more than just the Old Testament and so are more culpable. William PS Wendy – thanks for the encouragement. May God bless you richly!

I wonder ... maybe IF there is an afterlife they're not allowed to come back and tell us? Mainly because we'd change as humans if we knew for sure there was? I am deep tonite first time I ever thought of that.

Harry, Have enjoyed reading this thread especially as an 'open-minded sceptic'. I've always thought that if there was something after then all the mediums like Doris Stokes(?) would surely have come back to tell us? As for the scientific side. I'm very wary of scientists and their 'findings'. Everytime I watch a programme trying to explain anything - be it from the pyramids to space -- you always hear the words probably/ possibly/could be -- even they can not actually be 100% certain as knowledgeable as they are. We look back and laugh now at those who said the world was flat -- I wonder if people in a few hundred years time will be laughing at our naievity?

Hi All, Life after death cannot be (dis)proved by science – as science can only deal with what can be seen or measured. It’s like asking an engineer to critique a painting using his engineering skills – useless. It’s not the case that some are ‘good’ and that some are ‘bad’. Or that some ‘have’ a conscience – and that some don’t. We’ve all got a conscience – some people listen to it and act accordingly. Others don’t listen and it starts to switch off – I’ve heard it described as a metal triangle (with sharp points) inside you that turns whenever you do something you know is wrong. If you ignore it then it wears down and doesn’t bother you any more. God’s Word makes it very plain that ‘ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God’. Have you ever done anything wrong? In that case you’re on the way to Hell (forget the flames and pitchforks...see further down) – as am I. Except……do you want me to answer this in another reply?? Hell – what is it like?? Imagine something that gives you the slightest pleasure – a smile from a friend, a peanut butter sandwich, a sunset. Hell will be devoid of anything like that. God gives all good gifts – and Hell is a place without God. There will be nothing good there whatsoever. No kindness, no friends, no God, no meaning, no common sense – utter desolation. Please don’t joke about it. As for mediums who recount things incredibly accurately…I’ve no experience of it – but believe that amongst the frauds there may well be genuine mediums. But that is NOT the point. Humanly speaking, we have no idea at all whether they get their information from. You look for financial advice before taking out a loan – would you take info from the first person to give it – or would you check out the credentials of the info-giver first? I believe that mediums receive their information from the devil. He will quite happily tell you all sorts of nice, useful, accurate and comforting information if that suits his longer-term purposes. The Bible says (1 John): “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.” This is hardly comprehensive – but I’ll add more if I’m invited to…! Kind regards, William (who believes the Bible in its entirety)

i realy believe in the Soul, scientists call it the Brain, memory, personality e.t.c. what I can not accept is that if all we are is a brain what makes us individual, you slice us up and cut us open, remove our brains we allhave the same bits, one Brain looks like the other, everyones heart looks the same, what makes some people Good and others bad? why do some have a conscience and others no conscience at all, theres more to it than personality and up bringing. In my opinion. Roxanne x

DIZZI

DIZZI Report 7 Jan 2006 15:10

an evening class went to studying Thinking theory was asked to describe what is someones soul was ,,,,,,,,,,,,,the only thing i could think was that it was their personality while they were alive, because you remember them for what they were and what they did to others, one of the womwen started to cry,and said that her brother had died the year before and all she kept thinking was he was such a kind and loving person,so she said she would always remember it as his soul and it made her feel closer to him

Harry, I used to think it was deep too!lol But now it makes sense to me, but your right who really knows? but I hope with all my heart there is more to us than flesh, blood and bones. Roxanne x

I believe there is life after death, although i am not sure what form it will take. Strangely enough I have never felt the need for proof. Maybe because I don't have a particularly scientific mind. Ann Glos
