Hi again Darth... yep, Alex is happy again.... not sure i will be having to go into school at 7.30 in the morning to see the head before i go to work, lol. Happy all turned out well my grandson is dislexic and was bullied son had to sort out but fine now, just gone up to high school were they get extra help if they need it witch he didnot get at his other school and he loves it. All best wishes to alex love Valium

Has the naughty Ians parents been notified by the school???? Also just like to say my daughters partner is a physics teacher. The other day she amazed me by telling me he is dyslexic. Never would have thought it. Wasnt picked up until he was at university. So its not all doom and gloom for sufferers. Especially as your sons has been picked up early and like you said he is bright in so many ways. Good luck Gloria

Hi All... and thanks for all your interest . i went into school with Alex this morning at 7.30 [ before work... ggrrroooaaannnnn] spoke to his headmistress... she spoke to Alex...... all is well now ! He no longer sits at the same classroom table as Ian... and he has had a lovely day at school. As regards is dyslexia, Alex has one to one teaching twice a day. It is hard going though..... but as he has been 'statemented' this should follow him through all of his school years. There is a school in the Huddersfield area that deals specifically with dyslexia... i think we might look into that. His headmistress told me today that Alex is one of the brighter pupils in class... but .... he is miles behind . I am happy that the school is doing as much as it can for him, but am open to any pm'd suggestions of anything else that can be done. I have noticed from this thread that many people seem to have encountered problems re schools / dyslexia / teachers..... BUT after the last 2 days i realise things can be done to improve things. They bent over backwards to try and help...... Sue [ still very happy in the land of Sue.... xxx]

Sue Glad this has been resolved. I am a parent of children who have occasionally been in trouble at school and know that teachers etc sometimes get things wrong. I also work in a school - and have worked with many special needs children including several severely dyslexic children. From my experience - what children say/behave at home isn't always what they do in school - we have at my school sometimes been surprised at how upset a child has been (over a variety of things - lunchtimes, PE etc) but have always done our best to put things right when we do find out. Sometimes the parents are the last ones to know there is a problem. And we do use smiley faces with children - on charts and sometimes in books - BUT they are not called 'naughty books'. I don't like the word 'naughty' because I don't think it means anything to a child. We do have 'Happy Playtimes' or 'Good Behaviour' books and they are used because they work. BUT parents and schools have to work together to enable this. I hope that Alex continues to enjoy school. There are specialist advisors who can visit to provide ideas about resources etc, but you will probably need to push to get them. Specialists are like gold dust! nell
