Not an excuse but i dont think hubby realised just how much all this stuff meant to me... Plus, apparantly he had made an error while trying to sort out the mouse driver or something and had locked up the pc, so couldnt save anything before re formatting.... still doesnt excuse the fact he should have backed up stuff onto disk as he went along ;(( |

This is probably a dumb suggestion, but have you tried Start and then the search facility? Sometimes things show up and then you can click, open up and give them a new file name and pathway. Jay |

Hi Em There is a way of reversing time as it were and going back to the day before a problem occurred. We have done that in the past, but I can't remember how to do it. Maybe Judy in the States (on Tips) could help, or someone else who has a bit of PC knowledge. Hope this helps. Dianne xx |

Hi Diane, I think you mean restore system, it gives you a date and time you want to restore to, but sadly this doesnt work if you have totally re formatted your pc :(( thanks anyway.xx |

Bad news Em. Once a hard disk has been formatted everything is gone in as much as all the links to the data on the disk have been removed all the data is still actually there as formatting just removes everything so that you can't see it and you can get expensive programs to recover that data if you have not put anything back on the disk all the data is still there as formatting just removes everything so that you can't see it. If as you say the operating system (XP) has been re-installed on the disk then it's curtains, there aint a thing you can do, it's all gone forever, no amount of system restore or anything else can get it back. Sorry Em. Ron www.genealogyprinters(.)com |

Em So sorry . All that hard work and memories gone. Just by chance - were the photos emailed to you? They may still be on you ISP's servers or if like me your on AOL they should still be saved there. I do hope so. As far as im told, you need an extremely good expert to retrieve data from a disc that has been formatted and had a new copy reinstalled. Very difficult to retrieve the data but as I say, you need the expert. I wish you luck and send you hugs RC |
