Paul, I really don't know if I have one of those. Steven and Bob, both puters have Windows XP so I am going to do as you suggested, and also save all these photos and documents to a CD. I know I should save these things it just never gets done and then there is a load. Gloria

Yes Bob it works a treat if you use crossover cables you can transfer back and forward between the lappy and main tower. I have to be honest i use a router to net work all mine (4) but a pal uses the crossover cable and swears by it. Steve

Spoken to son who says I don't have a rewriter, so obviously I can't put the pics on CD, things don't get easier with technology!!!! Anyway, I am going to have a do at tranferring to the laptop, but not before I have saved these pics somehow. Gloria

take the cd's back to curry's and buy a memory stick babe!! That way you really do just move the files across at the simple click of a mouse!

Gloria, I think these cross over cables sound a good idea, I think I will look into that. Still think I will get a stick though. June xx

Gloria. If you buy one make sure it is at least 512mb memory or best of all 1 or 2gb would be better. My puter can accept memory cards from a digital camer as well. Neil

I'm a pensioner too and IT illiterate. All these replies are very well meaning but SO technical. I mean 'burn', 'memory sticks', 'crossover cables', 'router'. It may aswell be Chinese to me - honestly. I was told a while ago I couldn't 'write' things onto a CD - didn't know why or what I needed so left it. I have a floppy disc thingy but how do I use that in a computer? Could I put my family tree on it and if so how? I am used to a word processor but the laptop is a different kettle of fish. Anyway - good luck Gloria. Hope you sort it.

Its not funny is it Jim? Especially when the new toy doesn't come with a blow by blow handbook. Still we will not be beaten Gloria :-))))))

June Report 6 Mar 2006 14:42

Glotria, I know what you mean about handbooks, you get a nice thick one so you think everything must be in there with drawings too. Then you open it and there is a tiny section in English, no pictures, just techie stuff. June xx

Unknown Report 6 Mar 2006 14:47

June, it hasn't got a handbook as such, just a large sheet with 'Setting up your computer' and 4 diagrams!!!!! I know it will be dead easy, so will probably get son to do it. Haha Gloria :-)))))
