Just picked up on this thread whilst on holiday in France, so can't get to Hemel I'm afraid. I worked in Marlowes for four years at the Ministry of Transport building (Department of the Environment) back in the 1970s and yes Jess I do remeber the tube thing that went across the road, I used it often. Never actually lived in Hemel, I used to bus in from Berkhamsted and then drive from Leighton Buzzard, but still go there shopping and to consult the records in the library there as alot of my family were from that area. Hope you all have a good time. When I retire next year I may be able to join in some of these goings-on. Best wishes, Yvonne |

I thought Penny was 30 because she types young. I did have fun though with the men on their own, especially the German who I struck up a good chat with, and we could have had coffee together, he lives in St. Albans and works in Hemel. I am 60 by the way - and definitely can't believe it. What Penny is too polite to tell you, is that two of my friends, mother and daughter, saw me and plonked themselves down with us - but Penny was included in the conversation and she is easy going anyway. Thanks again for a pleasant couple of hours Penny. Just sorry that we didn't see Andy - although I was eyeing up all the single men..........maybe another day........everyone welcome....... |

Many apologies, for not being there folks, eldest daughter wanted to get her hair cut 11.30 in Berko, so I ended up walking young Christie down the towpath in her pushchair feeding the ducks! Someone please give me a nudge if there is another meet! Added by J e S S on 03/07/2006 21:42:27 Did you go to school in Hemel to Andy? No Jess, first of all Pinner, West Lodge, then Headstone Lane SM followed by Bushey Meads SM when we moved from Pinner to Bushey. When we were first married we went to Lovely Luton, then as the kids approached school age I didn't want them to go to school there so we moved to Hemel in '76. |

I feel at home with Penny, she is easy to get on with.... we sit outside in the sun, and order a couple of iced coffees.......then along comes my friend and her daughter, they sit with us and the chat turns to medical problems and horses........ Thank you Penny....it was lovely meeting you and seeing the pictures of your two lovely boys.......I am really glad to have met someone off the board..........a face to a name, so to speak......this has given me the impetus to join in a larger meet, that someone with a bit more savvy than me has arranged..... ...to Alan......I'm sorry if you are wandering around the precinct still......I did look out for you......... |

think..........right, approach the man and ask him if he belongs to GR........no, he doesn't.....quick explanation as to who GR are....then whilst we are talking up comes this younger lady, so I think that she must be Penny........I ask her,......she says 'no - Dad, I can't leave you alone for five minutes and you're picking up ladies' - quick explanation about Genes Reunited......and I move on. Lady goes into Starbucks, looks lost, looks round as if she is meeting someone......approach her........she wasn't amused......went onto another lone lady.........no.........by this time the first man and his daughter are laughing at me.......I decide to hang around in the vicinity and make a mental note that I am not really cut out for this. I then see this lady.....again quick explanations about GR and ancestors and things - and I am talking about meeting this lady from St. Albans, when up comes Penny and says hello. Sorry Alan, if you did turn up.....I did try......there was this chap on a bike........all done up in cycling gear.......but he was German, so after some chat about Nuremberg and the football, and how he works at Hemel Hospital and lives at St. Albans....Penny and I at last meet and sit down for coffee..... |
