Thats not so Aileen, until last week I had not been on any meets, until a lady called Penny decided to call a mini-meet because we live within miles of each other.........mini-meet it was because there was only the two of us... I took up looking for ancestors to take my mind of the illness a pet of mine was going through last September, and I got hooked on the boards - I needed to lift my spirits and have a laugh, and I certainly found quite a few witty people on here, as well as those who provide a shoulder to cry on, and tips on how to clean the oven.......... You don't have to be pushy, just keep adding to the threads that take your interest.......

I've been to one meet where everyone seemed friendly enough but I was too shy. But that's me - I always feel left out. I felt like I'd blown an opportunity. I'll shut up now with my moaning lol

Hi Aileen I'm stranded on the IOW where hardly anyone seems interested in Family history - mainly because they don't have far to go to find it if all their family are born and bred Islanders! Mine are all from the London area. I can't get to any of the 'meets' but have still met some lovely people on these boards...... Allie x

Jeanie Report 9 Jul 2006 23:20

Hi, I have been a member of GR or GC as it used to be called for 3 yrs or so. I spent most of the first year on the tips board and whilst I had loads of help on there, realised quickly that I did not have what it takes to become one of the popular people. Discovered the General board in the second year but was appalled at some of the racist posts that were going around. I quickly discovered whose views I agreed with and whose I did not. My first meet was at Chester last year where I met some very nice people, have been involved with the GB relay and went to the recent Chester meet. Since 90% of the people there had never noticed Jeanie A on the board it made be realise how invisible I am. So new name from today but I don't think it will make a difference. Jeanie A

Swiss Report 9 Jul 2006 23:39

Aileen, no, you're not alone. I haven't met anyone on here in the flesh either because I don't live in the UK. Maybe I will one day, if one of the North East meets coincide with one of my stop overs. Although I do manage to get back to the North East fairly regularly, reading and chatting on here really keeps my UK / Geordie batteries charged. There are some really wonderfully kind and funny people on here - better than a tonic! Margaret

There should be a thread giving details of meets: venues, dates etc. perhaps local directions and nothing else. I have seen one or two - after the event- which I may have been able to attend. len

Hi Aileen, I was born in East Ham, many moons ago now though and as I live in Q'land it's been years since I was there. What school did you go to? I went to Brampton Manor. I saw Yvette posted a message about the Wattlers and I second it, come down under via the internet and have a chat, Jillx

I havent met anyone else as I live in NZ (unless you count my NZ relatives who are on here too). But I join in and now 'know' quite a few of the others on here. They are a lovely bunch, or at least the ones I have had contact with are.
