The second detector arrived in yesterdays post !, and was taken round to the house last night. Daughter says she is feeling a lot better at the moment, but the housemate is still quite unwell. This makes us think that it may possibly be connected to where they both worked together. Daughter was made redundant last Tuesday and so hasn't been back since ..... Housemate is back at hospital on Friday I think, so will update then :-) Elaine ;-)

Well, the cheap twin pack of detectors has arrived ... but not the alarm one. It is reasonably early I suppose, and there are a few hours left of today, in which the other one could arrive in ... Elaine ;-)

Still WAITING for the Detectors. Have bought and paid for 2 different lots. Twin pack of cheap detectors AND a more expensive Alarm one. I was HOPING they would be here Saturday ..... now I'm praying they will arrive today ... but as yet - NOTHING. Elaine ;-)

Hi Elaine, What an awful thing to happen to your daughter and her friend, glad they are ok now. Yes you can buy Carbon Monoxide alarm and stickers. The alarms abviously warn you about a leakage, the stickers, well you can stick them anywhere in the house, when they change colour you know you have a leak. I have several of the stickers on the door of the cellar where my central heating boiler is, also various places in the house too.. Betty

Two lads in Great Yarmouth died from this a year or so ago. The landlord had his mate fit a secondhand gas fire I think it was. The fitter was imprisoned and so was the landlord but it doesn't bring those boys back.

It is very important that tenants DEMAND the yearly inspection cert. I lved in a rented flat with a gas fire and kept on feeling sleepy and lethargic.(I put it down to overwork) When my yearly gas check was done, the gas fire was found to be faulty. New fire, new me. Luckily I was working all hours and only had the fire on for a couple of hours in the evening. Also I had an excellent landlord who always complied with his obligations and responsibilities. I was very, very lucky, but for those of you with kids in rented property/ students in flats, make sure they are VERY aware of the need for checks and that they are told of the symptoms. Jay

im so glad they are both ok, saw your posting yesterday , and have been thinking of them both, in fact last night i dreamt i was in a hospital , it is a mystery especially after all the criminal stuff shes put up with of car damaged, and stuff, anyway glad they are ok, i know your keeping an eye on um

Hi OC :-) How are you ! don't see you often enough on the boards :-))) The Engineer condemned the fire in the house because: (long story I think!) NOTHING wrong with fire itself BUT the landlord had builders pput a new roof on month or two ago ... and in doing so, blocked off the chimney stack BUT they put a filter system in the chimney (of some sort) ? Anyway, turns out that the smoke (when tested) did NOT get dragged UP the chimney, and so for that reason alone, the landlord is now getting the builders back to fit the filter correctly. LUCKILY, the girls have NOT ever turned the fire on since they have been there ... so that isn't the cause :-))) With regards to neighbours - the girls are end terrace .... and the only next door neighbours aren't suffering any symptons at the moment - we'd know about it if that was the case. All worth considering though ... Will take onboard the advice about connecting into a lower socket .... (Thanks for that :-) ...) I'm shutting down now folks :-) Just gonna say Nite to a few friends, then I'm out of here. TAKE CARE everyone .... and go shopping for a C M Detector asap if you haven't already got one .... I agree with the others who say it could be a leak from a neighbour's house. A friend's brother, wife and five children almost died a few years ago. It was only the dog barking and dragging the bedclothes off them that saved their lives. It took two weeks to discover that a neighbour's chimney breast had a crack in it and the fumes were seeping through into their chimney breast. Carbon monoxide is heavy, I think, and it had gradually built up from the floor upwards. Incidentally, a Landlord has a Statutory obligation to check gas appliances, and other 'naked flame' appliances every year and these checks include carbon monoxide tests too. I have a CM detector which plugs into a socket. I was told that the socket should be as near floor level as possible, as that is where the CM starts to build up. Elaine, so glad your daughter and friend are okay. A couple of years ago our co detector kept going off and so phoned the fire dept. when they came they found acceptable levels in our place but as we were in a row house turned out it was from the neighbours place (who happened to be away - lucky for them). Anyway turned out that birds had built a nest in their chimney and co fumes could not escape through the chimney. Same thing happened to another neighbour only it was squirrels who had built their home in the chimney. Hope they find out where the problem is. Debs

elaine please don't apologise, i'm so glad that this as been bought to the boards ...because the more people that read it ..the more lives get saved.....and it;s very true people do not realise....it is what it says it is.....the silent killer,i'm so graetfull i woke up that morning, as i saved myself and my childrens lives.

Elaine might nto even be her hosue. I read in a mag recently about some people who got Cm posionin and it came from a faulty flue of their neighbours.... or something similar... something to consider when trying to find the source.

Gwyneth (Sunshine Smile) How deeply traumatic for you sweetheart. My heart goes out to you and your children. Such a very frightening experience for all concerned - I can tell. I'm really sorry that this thread has brought back such upsetting memories for you ... and so very glad that you and yours are here to tell your experience. {{{{{MASSIVE HUGS}}}}}}}} ... sincerely wish I could give you a real hug. Although this has obviously been upsetting for some, I feel that in a way, my daughters experience today MAY help someone tomorrow. Even today, when she phoned and said they were on their way to hospital .... it never dawned on me how serious this could have been. Because she's walking/talking etc I was oblivious to what might have been. Part of me is thankful that I didn't panic .... but the other part of me says ' how could you be so stupid and ignorant, not realising how serious this was '. You do take so much for granted every day ..... Best To Be Safe ...... My heart goes out to all who may have suffered loss or been traumatised because of this silent killer ...... Elaine ;-)
