Hi Errol, I am going off shortly to get ready for this birthday party, still chargeing this damned electic car thing I got for hi. Anyway I found this do you think it would help any. When searching for available updates on the Update site, you receive the 0x80240030 error. (Resolution 2) Last updated : 03/02/2006 Print | Close Problem description This error usually happens because there is an invalid character in the proxy override settings. Applicable operating systems and products Windows 2000 Windows XP Windows Server 2003 Resolutions 1. Remove invalid characters from the proxy exception list and then clear the proxy cache. Open Internet Explorer. On the Tools, select Internet Options. Click on the Connections tab. Click on the LAN Settings. Click on the Advanced button. Please delete any entry in the Exceptions section. Next, clear your proxy cache. Click on Start, and then click Run. Type cmd in the Open box to get a DOS prompt. Type proxycfg -d at the command prompt, and press Enter. Type net stop wuauserv at the command prompt, and press Enter. Type net start wuauserv at the command prompt, and press Enter. Incidentally, if you are here this evening I've just thought of something else (a quick one) that may help It involves adding a couple of addresses to your proxy exception list but I'll explain what that means later |

Brenda - all the stages we have been through are reasons why this problem would occur. I had the same problem with a client's computer recently and had to go through seven different fixes before it was sorted (incidentally - have already tried the one that worked for them with Betty lol) Betty that's fine if you want to do that - give me a shout when you are around (or later this evening if you want) |

Have a look for the narrow bar between the main window and the menu bar (probably yellow) and if you can, click on it. You may then be able to install the ActiveX control - I'll be back shortly but really must dash! |

Hi Errol, The message comes up so quickly and goes off within a second I just catch Active X bit. But it doesn't ask you to dowload it. Betty |

if it asks you on the Microsoft update site to install an ActiveX control click on yes. There may be a narrow bar/strip near the top of the window that you will need to click on ***update*** the narrow bar is probably yellow |

Hi Errol, Still coming up with the same message but something flashed on the screen first about Active X or something. It was so quick I couldn't read it just quickly saw the name Active X. Betty |

Hi Errol, Yes there was a tick in the 'Don't allow exceptions' I have removed it now. Betty |

ok it should say that it is switched on (next to the green shield). Is there a tick in the box next to 'Don't allow exceptions'? If so, remove it - it should be blank. |
