The first record I bought with all my own money was Johnny Remember Me by John Leyton - anyone remember that one? I had others before that, but Mum or Dad paid for most of them with me contributing about sixpence! LOL First record my brother bought was Nut Rocker by B Bumble & the Stingers - now is that sad or what! LOLOL Tina-Marie Mouldy Old Dough was my elder son's favourite record when he was a toddler. Even before he could speak properly, he could say 'Mouldy Old Dough!' Sue xx

Janet 693215 Report 1 Mar 2007 21:14

I bought two singles off a school friend 'The boys are back in town' Thin Lizzy and something by the Bay City Rollers. I bought the BCR one cos it wasn't on the album that my parents had got me. Thanks to this thread I started reminiscing the days when I'd go into Golds in Leytonstone High Road to buy the latest off the wall record. I had some fairly obscure stuff. As I remembered the day I lost the street cred by buying YMCA for my Dad, a song jumped into my head. I could remember the title but couldn't remember who wrote it. Naturally I googled and found a website www.last.fm. Now if you go to it you can build your own radio station according to the genre of music you type in. I found 'Mind your own business' by the Delta 5 (the track in question) and that brought up X Ray Spex and the Slits. Guess where I'm off to now. Obviously because of PRS if you are in the UK you can only listen to 30 second tasters of the track but if you are anywhere else (ie have an address in the US, you can listen to the whole thing.) There is another one of these personal radio stations called Pandora. I guess they'd be very useful for anyone holding a themed party.

Janet - Proud to say Thin Lizzie played at our school disco - just before they were famous, would have been about 1970. Excellent. maggie
