The really valuable ones are marked TRIAL and are not legal tender but, based on the experience of trial £2 coins, will be worth a lot more.

However if you have a coin in which the two metals do not align correctly, it could be worth quite a bit more than £1.

If it is marked 2016 but otherwise ordinary then if you put it in e-Bay quickly you might make a profit from some sucker.

There was so many released to certain places on trial in 2016.

There are some gaffs on some new £1 coins......mis-struck centres,mis-aligned patterns....... :-).

I got my first one today, also 2016. Any offers?

It is probably illegal for them to be stamped with a year other than the one they were made in.

The early £2 coins are apparently worth quite a bit so maybe there is a point in paying a bit extra for a 2016 £1 coin.

why then, if they were not due for release till now,I wonder, ... did they not put 2017 on them?

could have saved the cost of the dies used for 2016

thousands of them were minted in 2016 and are worth no more than face value
