Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 27 Oct 2013 14:14

every night at 7pm was In Town Tonight.

I was in a local choir in the late 1940,/early 1950,s and we went to the Albert Hall to sing in an all UK choir concert. We were told it would be on ITTN so I sat glued to the radio the same evening to hear it only for it to be a 15sec ref ,very disappointing.

I do remember though in the 1950,s the Sunday evening play on the BBC tele

We only had an indoor aerial that was temperamental on its pickup. we would sit hoping we would pick up the play . BBC channel closed down at 10pm .

The play was repeated on a Thursday

Sylvia Peters was one of the presenters

Claddagh, is your "dumpty dum etc" by any chance the song where Norman Wisdom and a woman, whose name escapes me, are singing some classical tune and keep laughing. Eventually the laughter becomes uncontrollable and the song grinds to a halt! :-D :-D

I can't get the tune out of my head!!

Thank you all for your contributions.Shame that the video clip you post isn't the one I am searching for Bobtanian.I don't know how I can search on YT for it without knowing who 'sings' it Andysmum.
Heard that War of the Worlds was to be on yesterday, but didn't dare listen, found it far too scary first time.I recall a program called Take it From Here Sharron, the signature song is still in my memory...'take it from here, why go away when you can take it from here'..etc, or have I got the words wrong? Ray's a Laugh was great.I don't have a satellite dish S.Col, so can only receive BBC1 & 2.I sometimes check program for these 2 on the internet.Have lived here (Holland) since '62 and wish we could get more British channels.Workers Playtime and Wilfred Pickles saying "give them the money Mabel" also bring a lot of memories back. Were Bootsy & Snudge in The Army Game? Not too sure now.. Thanks once again for taking the trouble to bring back some happy memories from my youth.

So many lovely memories.

I used to listen to the radio on Sunday lunch times in the kitchen whilst Mother prepared lunch. I loved Two way family favourites, Judith Chalmers in BFPO somewhere and Cliff Michelmore her husband I think was in the BBC studio in UK, sending messages and playing records.

"Whats the weather like over there Cliff" :-D

Cliff Michelmore in London, but his wife in Germany was Jean Metcalfe. I think they met "on air" doing Two-way Family Favourites.

we hadn't been in BAOR (BFPO 20) long when one Sunday early '60,

a request was played for one of our lot......it was "Sloop John B"

The " I wanna go home" song!!!

"I feel so broke up, I wanna go home!"
