The reason I sometimes have 2 copies is because when sending certs to other people it is better to send a vertical copy so they can print it off full readable size.

GoldenGirl1 - just trying to keep it simple but as Errol there are other ways of doing it.
I have an HP and it is possible to pre set before starting - also to change the rotation after scanning but before saving.
It is just trial and error - the key thing is to make sure the doc you are attaching is saved on your pc in the way you want it before uploading it.

:-D

Hi CC I do save them and as I said it shows as landscape
but when uploaded to tree it reverts back to portrait.
Such a simple thing to do but not on Windows 8, must be
something I'm missing.

Errol,

Thanks for your time and help but as you see still not working.
Will keep trying when head is a bit clearer and see if I've missed
anything.

cupcakes it should never be trial and error!

Emms - when you double click on the image and it opens on your computer (is it laptop or tablet?) , what programme does it open up in?

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 30 Jul 2013 15:20

Laptop

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 30 Jul 2013 15:23

ok
And which programme does the image open in when you click on it?

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 30 Jul 2013 15:31

sorry when first clicked on opens in scanner prog, then
when I click again opens laptop/windows 8

I'm not sure what you mean.

When the image is saved on your computer, open the folder it is in and click on the image to open it on your computer. Then see which programme it opens in.

cupcakes - surely when you send an image to someone they can choose whether to print it off landscape or portrait?
If I kept image files in different formats to suit every single person I may possibly send them to, my hard drive would soon be pretty full of dozens of versions of the same image lol

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 30 Jul 2013 15:40

it opens in windows.

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 30 Jul 2013 15:43

have also taken it from folder to desktop and attached it landscape to
emails, which works but when I take it from desktop to tree it reverts
back to portrait

Emms - Windows is the operating system. When it opens, the image should be displayed using a programme. The programme name should be displayed in the top left corner of the "window".

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 30 Jul 2013 15:52

that's the only way I can explain it Errol I know
windows is the operating system but the screen goes black and the copy almost fills the screen and no programme name shows

Windows photo viewer ......jpeg

eRRolSheep

eRRolSheep Report 30 Jul 2013 16:16

When it opens in Photo Viewer you should see the rotate buttons at the bottom of the screen.
Roate the image.
You can then save it by clicking on "File" (top left) and selecting "Make a copy..."
If you give it the same name as the original it will then ask you whether you want to replace the original.
If you have changed nothing apart from the rotation then you can click "Yes".
This may work for you.

that it works. :-) :-)

Just a thought - I don't use Ancestry, but it is possible to upload images in landscape isn't it?

CupCakes

CupCakes Report 30 Jul 2013 17:19

Errol answer yes - I'll have to think about this again.
Should be so simple.

I have windows 8 & HP printer but there are so many editing programs that come with all sort of things. I've never had this kind of problem ever.

'Emma' Report 30 Jul 2013 17:21

Yes have done it for years that's why I can't
understand why it's not working.
I must be missing something but for the life of
me can't see it...feel such an idiot.

Never mind tomorrow I will have another bash
at it :-D :-D
