OK Emms

You need to set it to scan as landscape rather than portrait.
This should be done before you actually scan.

I wouldn't go to the trouble of having two documents on your computer! Bit of a sledgehammer to crack a nut!

I scan a doc and then after it is downloaded in Jpeg format to my PC, I then move it to the relevant family file, making sure it is named correctly. I open it using my photo imaging software and click edit. If I need to change the rotation then I SaveAs the edited doc giving it a new name so I have two separate docs.

To be doubly sure - check that you have both the vertical & horizontal versions saved.

You should then have no problem uploading the horizontal version to your tree.

Hope this is helpful

:-D

If I understand I adjust on control panel icons.

When I open scanner it has the following on show,
tells docs in queue, A4,portrait and scan profile photo.

The one I use Scan a doc or photo- open scanner dialogue
Open scan property- display ui for scanner.
Scan settings- adjust scan settings such as dpi and output type.

As I say I use the scan a doc or photo etc

When you scan do you open up the HP Photosmart software so that you can change settings or do you just adjust settings on the scanner's control panel?

'Emma' Report 30 Jul 2013 13:36

Yes but should be ok as it is an HP laptop and
when set up it did not show any problems.

Are you using the software that came with the scanner?

Hi Errol,

It's a HP Photosmart C3100 series.

No rotating on the left or right icons.

Hi Emms

What scanner are you using and what scanner software do you use?

When you say you rotate it, are you doing that by right clicking on the file?

'Emma' Report 30 Jul 2013 10:48

Morning Errol,
No it does not open correctly, I rotate it and it then opens
correctly but transfer to my tree it reverts back.
I see nothing that says landscape or portrait options as in
windows 7 which was so simple to do.
I drag it to desktop as landscape and email it and it comes
out ok but do the same for my tree and yet again it reverts
back.

I'm not good at IT, but isn't there a little box to tick for landscape or portrait options?
Good luck though.

Hi Emms
This could be down to a number of reasons.
If you double click on the picture to open it, does it open correctly on your computer?

'Emma'

'Emma' Report 29 Jul 2013 18:27

Thanks ladies I save them in a scanned file which shows them
in landscape but reverts back to portrait when adding to Ancestry.

Hi Emma, when you say you transfer it to landscape, do you then click save and store it in my pictures or gallery?

I thought once you have saved it after making changes, it should not revert back unless after the scan you rotated without saving, just a thought? Otherwise i cannot think how its being changed when you upload.

Sorry can't be more helpful

Can I have some help please, I hope I can explain it
so you can understand.

I have Windows 8 and I have been managing not too bad
with the help of my SIL.
My problem is when I scan a document it comes out portrait style,
I rotate it to landscape but when I transfer it to Ancestry it goes
back to portrait. What am I missing that I can't get it to show up
as landscape?
