Hi Tenerife Sun, just got back on the boards, I don't need a passport, when I'm on my broom - stay close to home!!! ;-)

I carry my passport all the time


The universal piece of ID over here is your driving licence, which has a photograph on it ...........


.................... but I don't drive, never have done!


I could buy a non-driving drivers licence (if that makes sense!) ......... but it costs about $50


Or I could buy a BC Residents' ID Card ................... that costs about $75


Both of those have a photograph





................. I just carry my passport!




and hope I don't lose it.

I've only got the old style paper drivers licence. It would cost £20 to change it to a photo one. It would be handy on occassions when we go abroad, but why should I have to go to that expense?

I carry a photo copy of my PP when abroad, not that I've needed to show it (so far). It does mean that I have to dig out my passport different purposes when they ask for photo ID in the UK, but that is usually pre-planned.

Wendy, in Tenerife I have mainly only been asked for ID when using a credit card when in supermarkets, liquor and perfume shops. Very occasionally other shops but rarely restaurants.

I do have a photo driving licence which is used for ID here in UK if needed.

The passport is only proof that you are who you say you are.In Spain you need the residencia paper as well because your passport doesn´t have your address on it. Think it´s similar in England. unless your proof of ID has both a photo & an address it won´t be accepted.
What a faff.

How strange, I had not realised that the passport didn't have your address on it but usually if it is for something like buying on credit you need to produce a utility bill or something so they accept passport plus that, which has the address on it.

I owe you one Wisechild, I went to check the passport and decided to check the copy which is kept in a spare purse, (the one I use when travelling abroad), and I found a £20 note tucked away in there.

But for ID in Spain, Tenerife, I have always had no trouble with just the passport for ID when using a card.

Your passport is probably accepted as ID when you are abroad because the traders realise that you don´t have a permanent address wherever you are.
What I don´t understand is why ALL EU citizens can´t have some form of ID that´s acceptable everywhere.
As I said before, I live here & I´m married to a Spaniard, so why can´t I have the same documentation as him??
The same applies to anyone who has been granted permanent residence in another EU country. Admittedly mine was temporary for the first five years, but the one I have now gives me the right to stay indefinitely. That´s not because I´m married. The same applies to anyone who has lived here for more than 5 years.

If we ever meet WC I'll remember that. Easy because so is mine Lol!!

As to answer your opning post TS, No it hasnt stopped us traveling , I will take every opertunity to travel whilst i still can, I love our holidays and we work ( like everyone else) to have them, even when we was a family of 5 we went a way every year even in the UK, although I dont count holidays in the UK now as holidays just getting a way for a few days.I try not to return to the same place twice whilst I have the chance to travel I want to see as many different parts of the world as I can, I have gone to some places twice and some I have enjoyed some I havent.

Merlin there is no way on gods earth you would get me on a ship leaving Southhampton, as much as I love my cruises i would rather fly for 9 hours then sit on a ship whilst it sailed out of the England not seeing any decent weather for 2 days , what a waste of 2 days... :-D

Hayley, the last one I went on Lasted 3 Months.so 2days is nothing. however I,m lucky in the fact that I have a choice ,its either Dover, Southampton or Ashford International, too much hassle at Airports unless its a `Military one where they issue you with a Parachute for a quick Highlow exit. :-D :-D :-D :-D

:-D :-D :-D you should try flying in a Hercules, they give you a parachute and lower the rear door so you can get out pretty quick. :-D no customs problems or waiting for luggage (You take it with you on exit.) :-D :-D :-D :-D Quite Exilarating really. ;-)

I quite agree with you Hayley it's great to see other places while you can and I wish I had started travelling when I was younger but I couldn't afford it then. I still like to search for the best deal when flying but don't like leaving or arriving in the middle of the night.

Merlin give me airport hassle any day in comparison to jumping out of a plane with or without my luggage!!

TS its Itsmytelly most loved pasttime looking for a bargin holiday so I just turn up with me suitcase. :-D

What is it about men? I think my OH's best part of the holiday is the time he spends trawling the internet or a good deal. Left to me I'd probably take the first one I came to. :-D
