Off topic but

Eeyore, is this lovely dog yours? Every time I look at it's face I think of different things it could be thinking or saying, ie 'I've told you once I did NOT do it - it was the cat'

Island I wouldn't say anyone made me 'feel' I have flaws, it is my own perception that some of my traits could do with having the edges smoothed a bit ;) for my own good as well as anyone elses, it is just that certain people remind me of that...perhaps when I need reminding most lol.

Out for the afternoon so will reply later :-D >>>>>

I was brought up on the "do as you would be done by" theory...
It's not that great really because as a child it is easy to be influenced by adults & my Mum was the Queen of Sarcasm & I am my Mother's daughter in that respect.

Island, so what you learnt as a child did stick. What you learn isn't always good and as an adult you realised that this wast not what you wanted to believe in. I on the other hand decided that what I was taught as a child was good manners etc and so I wanted to pass it on.

What I'm trying to say is that I think that whatever it is you learn as a child stays with you and as an adult you have the choice to continue that way or change.

lol Island, well no maybe not at the time,

for example I have a lack of patience and a quick temper, therefore in a situation where I might 'snap' and make things worse by what I say, the kind of person I am talking of would be gentle and diffuse the situation and make it better. I can be reminded that this is how I 'should' be and try and remember to be more like that in the future...because I'd LIKE to be...but at the same time find being around such a person not 'easy' because I know I can never be what they are?

Rose, I'm not getting -
"I might not even feel 'at ease' with the person but recognise their influence...it is not always comfortable to be reminded
( unintentionally) by someone, of the flaws in your own character."

That doesn't sound like being given a gift to me :-S

Wendy, it has taken me a long time to shake of what I learned as a child and I feel one hell of a lot better for it.
I don't allow anyone to make me feel I have flaws. I am a good person and a realistic one.

I think what you learn as a child usually carries on. My mum would often say 'how would you feel if someone had said that to you' if I said something she didn't like. I in turn said it to my children and grand children. To this day I always try to remember this before I say something I might regret

That's it exactly Eeyore "you feel like you,ve been given a gift, ...."

Eeyore13

Eeyore13 Report 31 May 2012 11:58

Its the difference between the Cake Takers & the Cake Eaters?
:-D
The people who when you talk with them or read what they say & you feel like you,ve been given a gift, as opposed to the ones who leave you feeling totally drained...sadly I know less of the former than the later.

Rambling

Rambling Report 31 May 2012 11:15

Teresa ;-) I know rather more of them :-D

Island, yes there are people one feels very comfortable with, sometimes instantly, but that other's may not. We are all very different.

I might not even feel 'at ease' with the person but recognise their influence...it is not always comfortable to be reminded
( unintentionally) by someone, of the flaws in your own character.

Carol, I think it continues as adults but the lessons are less easy to learn, and change is harder to effect.

Wend

I find Island an easy old mare myself :-D
