Why it is great that you are thanking members for notifying you re the problem, how can you not have known about the problem yourselves, after all this is a web site, and this site is your shop window.
I have to say that no other site I use, has such bad customer relations, as soon as there are problems on other sites they say so immediately, therefore there customers know at the start what's going on, here it seems a guessing game.

Genes Advisor Report 26 Mar 2012 17:10

Hi everyone,

As promised, here is an update. Hopefully you have noticed that the site is now performing as it should again. We have identified the issue - As you know we are working on the Hot Match process, today we were running a query to make the Hot Match email run and catch up with a lot of unsent emails, but it put a lot of stress on our database and made it run slowly. This then effected the load time of the site and meant that lots of you saw errors caused by time outs.

You can reduce the likelihood of timeouts by deleting old messages and removing old contacts you are no longer in contact with. Large numbers of messages, watched threads and contacts within your account will increase the time it takes the site to respond.

We are constantly working on improving site performance and I'm sorry that so many of you experienced errors today. Thank you again for reporting these issues and apologies for any inconvenience caused.

I will ask Phil to give you a more in-depth technical report about what we are doing to improve site performance when he is back, but he is currently on a well deserved and long overdue holiday.

Thanks for the reply Katie :-) But surely a multi million pound business should have more than one technical person, what happens if Phil goes off sick for a while, let alone has a holiday? My local family butcher with one member of staff even has a stand in when she's off !

Dear Team,,,,,

Thanks for the update,,,,,,,,and I'd very much like to says thanks as today having a rest day and due to the continuing faults with the site,,,,,,,I now have wonderful steam cleaned carpets ,clean shiny windows and I even managed the time to shop for a new kettle which has been used constantly since mid-morning.....,I bet you could have built up a brand new spanking web site in that time.

;-) ;-) :-D

Well Katie, I can catogorically say that the site is not working properley for me. Try reading the posts on this thread, instead of over-riding them with you happy gpo lucky messages.

"You can reduce the likelihood of timeouts by deleting old messages and removing old contacts you are no longer in contact with. Large numbers of messages, watched threads and contacts within your account will increase the time it takes the site to respond."

That reads as an inference that the ongoing continual error issue is the fault of members.

I refuse to delete old messages from friends that have passed on.

Thank you for the apology; action backing it up would be appreciated.
A company as big as Bright Solid surely can afford to employ more staff in order to make the site function properly.

think the last time I had a Hot Match was the day of the coronation - now was it George V or GeorgeVII? :-D

"Hopefully you have noticed that the site is now performing as it should again."

- it depends how one defines "as it should". Having posted on this thread once and then clicked on other boards and threads, I can honestly type that it is not behaving as it should compared with other fee-paying and free sites, being much slower than them.

Also at least one other issue is still ongoing: the error message continually appears when clicking on My Threads.

Caroline Report 26 Mar 2012 19:03

I agree why is there only Phil that can ever actually seem to do anything ???
Thanking us for our patience is all well and good, but we pay for this service and as I'd mentioned on another thread they don't care that they are not offerring a service whilst taking our money basically.
Why is it ALWAYS our fault in their eyes when push comes to shove, when NONE of this happened before they did the "improvements" ?????????
Rant over for 5 mins !!

So members browers aren't to blame after all?

I have a low post count and only three pages of contacts but I was still getting the error message over a few hours from about 10.30am today.

I appreciate the acknowledgement Katie but clutching at straws springs to mind.

Well Sorry to say the ERROR MESSAGE IS STILL COMING ON WHEN CHANGING BOARDS ALSO WHEN TRYING TO ADD A POST.
Fed up to the teeth with this now as it's been going on for months.

It's time that GR payed for someone with website design and .technology besides Phil..
I can certainly recommend someone who could sort all the problems out in a couple of days.

Perhaps if I could use My Threads then I might think about deleting some of them that do not contain lookup info for other GR Members !!!!!!!

Quite frankly this site is a complete joke :-( , I have had so many errors recently- it's a farce ! If things don't improve soon I will not be renewing my membership, that I can promise you. If I was you I would get a new I.T. team on the job, YOU KNOW PROFESSIONALS- WE PAY ENOUGH !!

GR

I have to say thank you for the updating

but it is NOT satisfactory!!!

You should be able to update your site without affecting site users

and please NOTE ... it is Affecting not Effecting!!!

That is, unless you meant the update to be effective in affecting members :-D

and then this ........................ is insulting!!

"You can reduce the likelihood of timeouts by deleting old messages and removing old contacts you are no longer in contact with. Large numbers of messages, watched threads and contacts within your account will increase the time it takes the site to respond."

I find your suggestion of deleting contacts, My Threads, etc, insulting because IT IS ONCE AGAIN PUTTING THE BLAME ON US, THE MEMBERS!

I cannot open more than one message at a time without having to leave the Message Centre and re-enter ..................... it can take ages to open, read and answer even 5 messages!

I AM not about to spend all my time on here deleting messages

It is impossible to delete threads from My Threads without deleting the actual message on the thread .............. that, as you should know, means opening the thread, reading through the thread, and then deleting a message

BUT that is not always possible because messages on look-up or information request threads may still be valid ............. and should still be left.

Witness the stickied thread on Find Ancestors, by Heather, ABSOLUTE BASICS FOR BEGINNERS PLEASE READ

http://www.genesreunited.co.uk/boards.page/board/ancestors/absolute%20basics%20for%20beginners%20-%20please%20read/thread/1191812

I have suggested several times in the last few weeks that there be installed a method by which we can delete threads from My Threads without deleting the posts from the actual thread.

ISNT it funny that we get a big apology for tech problems,
but no apology for th constant upset of RRing, its been going on for months now,and all yo get from genes is the stupid standard message, even when you are not in the wrong, the abuse messages from genes keep on coming.
this site is terrible. :-(
