Hi Island.

LOL you want me to search scotlands people for a rellie of yours :-D

I'm never on in the evenings so miss a lot of what goes on till I read it
next day, (if it hasn't been whooshed), but I do enjoy the banter with you
all in a morning and reading other threads, and sometimes join in. :-D

Hello Merlin, you sneaked in while I was composing. ;-)

With all this talk of Elasticity :-S I do hope you Ladies are well supplied with Safety Pins :-D :-D as for people leaving thats their choice to make ,sometimes its sad for them to do so,However some people have "Supposedly" been Banned For Life,Only for them to reappear in another guise or even the same board name, which makes it rather pointless.the weather here is really great, wall to wall sunshine, went over to Tenterten thismorning the countryside was wonderful.enjoy the rest of the day, :-D :-D :-D ;-)

I think I must have some Scots blood Emma ;-) but this is how they've got us. I wouldn't pay double to rejoin when I only pay 9.95 p.a. if I stay. Mind you if they don't get the site problem free by June I'll be tempted to go on a permanent school run.

I am also going to have a break, July is when I'm due to renew.
Hoping for a good summer and look forward to my holibobs at
caravan site. Due to health issues last year never made it out there.
Thought of letting it run out and then renewing in the winter, but
being the true scot that I am why pay more when I do renew, and
what if it rains(not that it will LOL) I need something to do.
So with Dongle at the ready watch this space. :-D :-D :-D

StrayKitten Report 8 Mar 2012 14:31

well im leaving,,,,,,,,,,,,to do the school run :-D

most who say there guna leave rarely do as been said, or come back with there tail between there legs a few days/weeks later, see were irrisistable, and people have to come back ;-)

i do think some newbies get a raw deal, they dont no board eticate, so a gentle push in the right direction is better than a great shove and a telling of, as some do get, :-D

Morning Rita,
because there is often no valid reason to report the post and the 'complainer' would make themselves known by asking the poster to remove their post. If the reason is valid I'm sure the majority of us either pm or suggest editting on the thread - civilised requests don't get noticed of course which, I guess, is why these cowards do it by RR.

Morning Julia :-D

Julia Report 8 Mar 2012 07:45

Morning All
Thank you everyone who have posted. All have valid view points.
I posted this when I had just read that two other people had said thay were leaving, not necessarily because of what happens on these boards but also for private reasons. I just felt is was a shame that two who have contributed much, felt this way.
Not only is it nice to see newbies wanting to join and be accepted, but to know that there is a coutre (sp) of people that, I will not call oldies, but who are here on a regular basis, and nice to see a familiar name.
I agree entirely with TeresaW post at 22.36. The treatment meted out to Lesley on her foray into this new world, to try and find information on her father, was absolutely abominable. If I had spoken to another human being, whether it be in the cyber world or in real live, my dear departed mother would have risen from her grave, and smote me across the mouth. Why this person has not been stopped before, is beyond me. But then as a newbie, you do not know you can report people, let alone how to do it.
I see the happy fingered RRer, has been at work again. Poor Suzanne, seems to have come under the hammer yet again. And, Chris in Wessex has been RR'd for the first time in nine years.
It really beggars belief as to what is happening at GR. It is time this petty indiscriminate RRing was stopped once and for all.
If GR do what they said they would, in that anyone doing it too often would be barred, then now is this time. Amen to All that.

Just speaking as I feel

I have said .not renewing after april as i am fed up of some of the things on here .i was stalked by a person & lost a friend because of it .they appeared for a short time, recently & whoosh gone again .its not me being childish .or throwing a tantrum .I have enjoyed meeting folks & joining in with threads .but just time I went .& did family tree some where different, .its a shame as there use to be a lot of banter & friendship .but some folk take over & you cant cross them they have there say .but we cant reply as its being soft or [you mean my thread ].the whole world does not evolve round .them .any way .had my say .dont miss me to much :-D

TeresaW Report 7 Mar 2012 22:36

That was another point. Maybe if some of the researchers (and by no means all, just one or two) would treat newbies with a little more tolerance, expect them to make mistakes, and speak to them with a sympathetic and civil tongue, maybe those newbies wouldn't post and run never to return...

:-D

Rambling Report 7 Mar 2012 22:20

ROFL Teresa :-D bungee rope indeed! tsk and I thought what kept me here (or coming back like a bad penny lol ) was the loverrrrly people ;-)

I don't think too many oldies have left because of rucks on here...more that they made it too hot for themselves to want to stick around . :-D

There are a few instances when newbies have been given rather short shift ( imo) when they've asked genealogy questions in the wrong place etc...which is a shame, as it only takes a bit of friendly advice for them to settle in. :-)

TeresaW

TeresaW Report 7 Mar 2012 22:07

I haven't noticed too many people leaving? I know one deleted herself a few days ago, and we had one nearly left at the weekend so apart from Rambling Rose, who is attached to GR on a bungee rope :-D ;-) I don't view this as a real problem to be honest.

I do think some people who are perhaps not internet savvy, are a tad sensitive, but it takes all sorts, and it doesn't take long to learn that's how it is and it's a lot worse on some other forums. Any rucks on here are mere childsplay when compared to say, the political forums..

But, lets be honest. When there is a ruck on here, it's usually contained to just one thread, which you can choose to stay on or keep off.

I really don't think things are that bad on here that it would cause (or indeed HAS caused) people to leave in droves. Even the big shutdown a few years back had people leaving because a) this site had been shut down and b) there was a new one to go to. I note nearly everyone is back here now, so it's not that big a problem.

Usually those who flounce out in a hissy fit return a while later.
