Thanks to everyone for replies.

It is a shame to read that some of you have been generous in lending money to friends and have lost it. I do hope that in some other way the generosity shown has 'come back' to you.

there is a whole diffenence of help to get by on,,,,to loan to fund holidays and the like.....

I learned the hard way not to live on loans or credit, and now, anything I have is bought and paid for. If I've not got the money for it I go without. End of.

One thing I would never ever do is take advantage of a friend's good nature. Never have and never will. I've been desperate in the past and been offered, but not taken it. I got myself into the mess, so it's up to me to get myself out of it. To take advantage of someone's generosity is lower than low in my book.

The woman on the tele the other night didn't lend out money but was scammed out of it with lies and deceit and more lies and and and......Now to me, whoever uses friendship to fleece a person who doesn't have much anyway ( apart from a wonderful heart ), to me that is a scumbag! and when found out still doesn't pay it back.....well....as I say......Scumbag!


I must stop watching these programmes ;-)

Are you all sitting comfortably? then let me tell you a little story :-D

There was once quite a wise woman, who would never fall for scams on the phone, or in the post etc, but her fatal flaw was that she had a very kind heart and a profound understanding of the stress and despair caused by lack of money at a time of need. And so she became what is known in the trade as 'a sucker', it cost her more than she could actually afford, but she gave willingly and unconditionally...

However, when she realised how it had affected her life, she 'wised up' and was never caught for a mug again and, more to the point, she felt it adviseable, with her still kind heart, to make sure that no one else got caught the same way...it made her watchful and perhaps a little more suspicious than she ever was destined to be by nature, but the one thing she knew beyond any doubt was to beware of any person she caught out in a lie... because she knew that where there was one lie there were likely to be many lies.

PS. It goes without saying that there were still people that she trusted, because they had nothing at all to gain from a lie, not money, not attention, not any kind of kudos... the kind of people who stick to what they have said time after time...simply because it is the truth.

yes ive pmd you, i posted how i dont lend off people but will lend to people after tha cam.... then i added how a old member unfortunatly with the same name as me used to lend of a lady on here , someone put and she is not the only one eh, straight after. what would you thin, i didnt rr this one,

When I have it I'll share with my friends. When I don't my family steps in with no request for repayment but I always do repay with a bit extra.

After losing 4 years salary we do owe money to banks but I have no problems in making them wait (and get no interest). They were eager enough to lend us money in the first place.

We don't have a mortgage so that's a bonus :-D

Been there. Done that. Loaned someone close to me a rather substantial amount of money because they were in dire straits and at the time I could afford it.

Pay me back when you can I said.

To cut a long story short .... a number of years later I was in a similar situation to them. At the time they were enjoying foreign holidays, new house, cars etc but no repayment received. "Any chance I can have some of the money back I loaned you" says I. Their reply was "Sorry, no chance. Interest is too high" :-0 :-0.

Since then, my money is my own. No credit or debit mnycards, everything is paid in cash.
