I think it's a load of commercial rubbish and refuse to enter into it. I could possibly be the only person in the world unmoved by it...but so be it.

I'd far rather get tokens of affection when they're given with love and honesty throughout the year..not on a day the card companies and florists dictate ....

Well the days are gone when I will ever get a Valentine but no I don't begrudge them one little bit.
What I do admire Muffy is that you are prepared to disagree with the world if necessary ,and stand your corner. So many people are like sheep and agree, just to be one of the crowd. Well done......even though I disagree with you- lol- jl

I don't begrudge anyone their love of Valentines Day..which is why i didn't want to go on the ones that do enjoy it and pour cold water over their threads....

It's like the commecial exploitation of all the other 'days' - mothers, fathers, st patricks and all the rest of the nonsense.

It's a sad day when you need to have a nominated day to give a display of affection and or romance to someone. Plus I hate having to wade through knee deep piles of cards and the postie has a bad back.

Himself sent me a bouquet of flowers on the first Valentines day we were together..they were very lovely...and after thanking him very much for them...I said...but you should know I don't really DO Valentines Day....these are so nice you're off the hook forever more. LOLOLOL.

Now if he forgets our wedding anniversary on the 26th..he'd be in DEEP doo doo lol that's our day and I expect to be spoiled...in fairness to him he never has yet x

My Victor Mildew ,as the grandkids call him, isnt even aware of what day and what date it is . When he came down this morning i said "happy valentines day" he replied "WHAT???) i said its valentines day and victor replied loads of rubbish !!.

I'm with you Muffy. If I was in a relationship I'd rather have a bunch of flowers that cost around £5 on an ordinary day...just because...than an exhorbitantly priced bunch of red roses because it's Valentine's Day and capitalism expects it.

Saint Valentine (in Latin, Valentinus) is the name of several in all martyred saints of ancient Rome. The name "Valentine", derived from valens (worthy, strong, powerful), was popular in Late Antiquity. Of the Saint Valentine whose feast is on February 14, nothing is known except his name and that he was buried on the Via Flaminia north of Rome on February 14, he was born on April 16. It is even uncertain whether the feast of that day celebrates only one saint or more saints of the same name.
