I met three great grand parents:
Frank (Father's paternal grandfather) born June 1860 (died Sept 1948), don't remember him but have the photo taken c1940.
Mary Ann (Mother's paternal grandmother) born June 1863 (died Feb 1959)
Charles (Mother's paternal grandfather) born 12 Apr 1858 (died Oct 1949)
I remember those two very well. I wish I had asked them about their great grandparents.
Also last met Mary Ann's little brother, Arthur (born 1878) in the early seventies. He died in 1983 aged 105.

Can't get anywhere near some of you re earliest born relative but my grandma was born 1892 (died 1982, aged 90) when I was 28.

How I wish I had started by quest into my family history whilst she was alive. She would have been able to have told me so much and I know she would have enjoyed doing immensely.

My g.grandmother was born in 1873. One of her daughters (my father's aunt) had a baby girl late in life which made her only a year older than me. I have a photograph taken in 1949 of me (aged 6 months) and my father's cousin (? my 2nd cousin) aged 18 months with a lady aged 76 who was my g.grandmother and yet her grandmother.

My great grandmother, born 1858 died aged 92 in 1950, I was 11 and saw her 3 times a week. She used to sing songs to us and we fetched her a jug of beer from the pub and she let us clean out the tin of sweetened milk which she called swiss milk. She had willow pattern plates and could ,in rhyme tell us the story of the figures on the plates. She would not use the new fangled flush toilet but loved her wooden seated earth closet, it was one that had another hole so if you wanted you could sit side by side. Lovely lady. :-D. Elaine.

My grandmother....Florence Maria..born 1865..died 1948.......My parents went to Hull in Yorkshire and took me wiith them..and I had no idea where we were going or why...........We arrived at this house with all the curtains drawn..and full of mystery people dressed entirely in black.......I later learnt that they were pretty well all late Victorian siblings of Florence or of my grandfather Walter..both of whom were from huge families......there was a girl there Shirley..who turned out be be my first cousin..born on exactly the same day as i was..(She is now in Australia..still living..like me!!! lol)......those were the days when children were seen and not heard, and we were thrown out of the house.....and we chatted and eventually swore undying love to each other and promised to get married as and when (we were both ten years old)............at some point i was called back into the house to meet this oldest relative of mine.......was ushered (alone) into this darkened room..and could just about distinguish a figure lying on the bed....................which then, very loudly......broke wind!!!!!!!.........I think i ran screaming all the way back home from Hull to York..........yes.I mmet my oldest relative as a decomposing corpse!!

My maternal Great Grandma b 1887 d 1984. She brought my mum up from the age of 6 and was an absolutely wonderful lady.
I have such fantastic memories of her taking me and my brothers to the duck pond etc. She always wore navy, a long pinny, pink or blue bloomers and if she went out a navy beret and the pinny came off. Oh and a navy coat. She had one tooth and I didnt find out till after she died that that wasnt her own.....a dentist friend had screwed it into her gum.Whenever she came to our house out came the jigsaws, cards, knitting, marmalade and blue cheese. I could not have had a nicer Grandma I loved her very much..
I only have one regret regarding her.......... my first child David was born end of Oct 1983 and we decided to wait till better weather before going with him to Granma but she died in the Jan without seeing him.

Not quite on topic, but my late Mum (b 1915) lived with an Auntie (b 1866) in the 1940's. Auntie used to talk about 'Aunt Musson from Harley St'. Eventually I found Aunt Musson, she was actually great Aunt Musson 1806-1883. That's a lot of years of memory being covered.

My Great Grandma, my mums dads mum born 1887 and died aged 96. She was a wonderful lady who was always dressed in navy. Her full length pinny only came off if she was going out, and then the navy coat and navy berret went on. When she came to stay out always came jigsaws, cards, marmalade, blue stilton cheese and wool for knitting. She used to knit for my dolls, aswell as my brothers and I lovely clothers. Even when we lived abroad for a while she used to parcel them up and send them to us. She was such fantastic grandma, everyone should have one. I miss her very much. If we do meet up with people who have gone before us when we die I will certainly have something to look forward to.

Only one of my great grandparents was alive when I was born in 1946. My gt grandmother Jennie Molineaux (1862-1949). And I met her (was taken into her presence), but cannot remember and no photo alas.

My mil b Jan 1918 Pendoylan in Vale of Glamorgan is still alive. And she frequently met her gt grandfather John Morgan of Llantrithyd (Ioan Trithyd) whose dates were 1830-1930. Died just 5 months short of 100, and she was 12 at the time and remembers the old man very well.
