WELL my husband was probably who the writers of the Meldews based their writings on !! Even though I love him and wouldn't want to lose him after 54 years of marriage I could clock him sometimes!!. The grandchildren too refer to him as Victor Mildew!!.

He says he cant help how he responds but i cant accept that especially as he is told over and over DAD /Hubby you are a grouch!!

To me you can think before you speak. I had to backtrack after he retired to let him in cos until then he wanted me to organise EVERTHING and then got uppity cos I was still doing it after 40 plus years. i listened to what he said and backtracked on how I handled things, GIRLS you know what I mean .make the decision but word it so he thinks he did!! :-D

I was brought up when a quick slap on the bum or on the leg was acceptable so I have mixed feelings as to whether it works or not. I did slap our daughter when all else failed but she will tell you now she doesnt remember any slaps she remembers more my "ma kettle" ( older members may remember the American series) voice when i berated her .BUT she also says she was frightened of me and didnt want to displease me so i would have a go at her. That really upsets me more that i made my daughter frightened cos i was a perfectionist in behavior, Really though each generation had their ways of discipline that carried on when the children had their children. i would give anything to undo my own method that i inherited from my parents.

Have to say me & my girl are best friends and she knows we will always be there for her.

Muffyxx Report 19 Oct 2011 23:26

Nah mine are just common or garden smiffs aka Smith lol ..rough lot us lol

...well not strictly true..My Smiths were once affluent..but once their Dad died at an early age they fell into hard times...not that they'd ever admit it...they liked to keep up appearances. My close Smiths were considered a snobby bunch ...even if they stopped short of the Smyth lol x

Suzanne, agree my father never smacked me in temper, I loved him and thought he was a good role model (have to say my mother left us when I was 9 back in the 50's) I always held him in high esteme. I had 3 children under 3 and a half and have to admitt they did drive me mad at times, hence why I probably did give them the odd smack or two, but I really feel it has not done them any harm. You would have to ask them if I have ruined their life's. One owns a successful business, one lives in South Africa with her own business, and one is a mother of 3 who works.
