fem·i·nism
[fem-uh-niz-uhm] Show IPA
–noun
1.
the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men.
2.
( sometimes initial capital letter ) an organized movement for the attainment of such rights for women.
3.
feminine character.....

I always thought it was about equal rights for women. But having seen Claire in Lincs thread and Germaine Greer on Question Time on Thursday...it seems to have grown more layers??? Or maybe I just haven't been paying attention?

Not out to cause a row...just genuinely interested x

somebody who hates men doing the nice things
they are the ones who want hairy chests and the b****s
and play silly games to get what they want

do we really want equality
its not really about equality
is about thinking they are better

well if you wanna burn ya bra
and have bruised knees
thats up to you
me thinks any way

I thought Claire's thread was on Prince Philip???

I've always understood it to be the definitions you've posted, Muffy - I know it's a lot more complex than that and with different levels but those are the basics. What was Germaine Greer saying? I like her :)

Well..I have to admit I was half asleep when I was watching it (not unusual) but she was banging on about young girls flirting with their fathers by kissing them goodnight.????

Haven't had time to properly process it all or watch again to see if I'd missed anything else said tbh...but even half asleep it made me do a double take..and what with Claire's thread veering into that direction it just brought it back into my consciousness.

It was about Prince Philip SRS...but it's kind of *evolved* now lol x

lol I'd best watch it, Muffy - I really admire her but don't always agree with her so'll find it interesting:)

theres nothing wrong with girls or boys
kissing their dads night night or mums

only a dirty mind could find it flirting

my son is 33 but as he goes to work
we drop him at the airport
and i always kiss him good bye and say love you son
and he kisses me back saying love you much
its just our way

I don't know... I haven't needed to sue for my own equality I have expected it and in most instances I have had it.Everything I have I have got for myself ( apart from two engagement rings lol)

That is of course not the same in every culture, and I would always go out of my way to encourage women to 'know' they are equal...doesn't mean making out men to be a breed apart who are all sexual dominance, aggression and patriarchal control.

I hug my son and say I love him, if i was a man with a daughter I would expect to be able to do the same without someone seeing it as 'sexual'.

my son is very much a mans man
nobody will say a word
he is a body builder and very fit

look at the karys how they treated their mum
and yet they were pure evil to the out side world
in my mind
there is nothing wrong with loving your family

Its more or less.

Feminism is -advocacy of womens equal rights on all levels,,to men or other..... and a feminist supports these ideals......

some feminist though only want it a half way pact,as as soon as a man swears and acts towards her like he would another man then,,,,,,god forbid all hell breaks lose and she wants his blood.........

:-D :-D

Do you think a feminist supports equal pay for doing the same job?
That part i would agree with,,,,but the rest of it seems to be more complex....as muffy said,,,grown more layers,
Or do feminist add stuff that suits them?

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 13 Jun 2011 01:12

Well if you're working on the basics...I'm a feminist...but if you factor in all the other stuff...then I'm definitely not !!

I'm 41 and I still get hugs and kisses off my dad.....and why not ....I'm his baby in the same way as mine will always be to me whatever their age ffs.

. I'm insulted to think that anyone would consider showing affection to one's children to be odd or manipulative.

Me and My OH adore them..and smother them with kisses.....is it ok for ME to do but not him ??? I think not !!!

Claire in Lincs Report 13 Jun 2011 01:16

Muffy,,,,i totally agree,,

How wierd that someone would think it strange to kiss your own children.

My lovely grandson is 13 and we have as much kisses and hugs as we can get,
He is going to live in Chicago soon and i will really miss all that.

Daughter and I were on the bus once - she was about 14.
I leant over and kissed her- the elderly couple behind 'tut tutted' and said it was disgusting.
We realised they thought we were a female 'couple' - so we did it again - and again.
When we stood up to get off, it was obvious we weren't of a similar age - I looked at the couple and said 'Very sad that a mother can't kiss her daughter without being judged for something they aren't, isn't it?'

Seems like Ms Greer is becoming an old fart who is seeing what she wants to see, (like this old couple) rather than what is there.
My grandson adores his father and kisses him all the time - he's just a loving toddler!
I still kiss my ex (peck on the cheek type of kiss) when I see him-doesn't mean we want to jump into bed!!! (or his current partner - who's lovely- may have something to say LOL)

What on earth does she make of the French?

I agree Maggie,,how unnatural of GG to think a hug &kiss from dad to his children or the other way round as anything more than show affection they love them, its what happens in families who show it this way without it being anything more,,,,,,,dirty mind come though.....
