What a gorgeous pup...for some reason she remined me of an Irish Wolfhound I saw at the pound named Rosie.

She looks a nice smiley dog (if you know what I mean!)

Was going to add that my dogs are called Tia, Mabel and Bella and my cats are Milly and Lulu, but see there's no need now!

BTW, Harper is a great name and I too love the book. x

Hmmm....well he duped me a bit tbh...it was too late by the time he actually admitted it lololol. He knew full well I was a Spurs supporter as I spent most of our first date watching Terry Venables on MOTD and extolling the virtues of his football knowledge and he said nowt !!!!

I just love the book too Helen...I adore Scout's character and the way that you truly believe you're seeing it all through the eyes of a young girl. One of those books ..once read never forgotten x

How about Muzzle her breed name means this in german. They were bred from the giant schnauzer and affenpincher and possibly poodle. There is a site for Shnauzers have a look. Elaine.

Muffyxx Report 7 Jun 2011 21:52

I've done a bit of research into the breed...but my final decision rested mostly on my *hands on* experience with schnauzers i've met..and I've never come across a bad one yet !

Have to admit...I couldn't wait til tomorrow...we collected her early this afternoon lol...it may be too early to tell..but if she is as laid back and loving once she's settled...we've got another absolutely fantastic dog...she's a cracker !!! x

A few years ago I had a german shepherd that was dumped from a car in front of my eyes. We didn't know what to call him until one Sunday I was watching the film Rommel the Desert fox. It came in a flash as they were talking about the Panzer division, thats it Panzer! ( german for armoured) turned out he was, he would charge through any obsticle and my goodness did he protect me and my kids if needed. Elaine. :-)

..... Good name! If she turns into a food stealer, you can shorten it to Harpy - The literal meaning of the word seems to be "that which snatches" -and as Schnauzer means snout - very appropriate!!

according to a 'Baby names' site, Harper is a unisex name meaning 'Harp Player'

Just looked up my cats' names.
George = earth worker- well he does that every time he does an 'excuse me'!
Betty = 'God is my vow'. Could that be translated as 'I am queen'?
Mr Miu =not in the list -but he is a cat!!! :-S

I like Harper Lee's first name

Nelle

and as I'm Canadian, I hate Harper :-D

seriously, I hope she has settled down very well.

One of my daughter's school friends had a miniature schnautzer many years ago.

Did you know that schnautzers were bred to defend the women of the house?

They were ....... and the trait still holds.

Well, this friend's mother was divorced, no men lived in the house ....... and the dog went absolutely bloomin' berserk if a man even came up the garden path!

Women were fine ... she loved women.

we used to joke that she'd let a woman burglar steal everything in the house ..... and show where the stuff was hidden if anything was missed!

But .............. if J went to visit this friend, I would have to go to the door because the whole neighbourhood was disturbed if OH went!

From what I can gather Nellie Harper Lee is a bit of a recluse???.

our Harper is the polar opposite lol.

I don't really get to hear much re your Harper so it doesn't have any bad vibes for me as far as that goes x

Muffyxx

Muffyxx Report 14 Jun 2011 21:55

Well I didn't know that Sylvia !!!

Wouldn't work in this case...Harper gives a serious lick..male or female it's all the same to her lol

She's been an absolute joy.....she's clean in the house (though I'm still taking her out a lot for a *try*)..sits, lays down, stays...for about five steps lol..and has stopped jumping up..but over and above all that...she's got the sweetest temperament ...we really have struck gold with her...Couldn't be more pleased..she was worth the 2 year wait whilst I dithered lol x

SylviaInCanada Report 15 Jun 2011 06:43

I think Nelle Harper Lee was indeed a recluse!

We've had Harper for 5 years in 2 minority governments, now we've got him for 4 years as a majority one ......... right wing religious ultra conservative!

It sounds as though you have a delightful dog!

How old is she?

Poor OH ..................... he felt so discriminated against with the miniature schnautzer that we knew. The barking would start before he even knocked on the door, would continue all the time he was on the doorstep (didn't dare step into the house), and wouldn't stop until he was on the sidewalk! To add to that, the mother's help and daughter's friend would be holding the dog to stop her going after OH!

When I went to the door, the dog would be licking me, wanting to be petted, etc etc

They had got her as a guard dog, because of the breeding to protect women!

I think the mother got a boy friend later ............ but by that time daughter was not going round there so frequently, and we never heard how dog reacted to boyfriend! Maybe him being in the house with the mother and the daughter and being "introduced" to the dog made a huge difference,
