Thanks, Mick.He left a message last night saying that he had been told that if the Bunyip River burst it's banks that they may have to evacuate the area,so they were on standby. The river was supposed to peak at over 7 metres.I was a bit worried until I heard directly from him.

Thanks Tony, for the link. Those videos are interesting.

It's ok, I've just heard from him,he's fine.He can't go anywhere though,or get home,the roads,including the Gippy Highway,are all blocked,so he's sitting tight for the moment.At least we know he's ok.

I'm glad that you're safe from the flood waters on high ground,Mick.

Do you happen to know anything about Nyora? My son is staying with friends there for the week-end.I have tried to contact him on his mobile, but have only been able to leave a message.I don't think that Nyora was affected-the newspaper report didn't mention there as an area which had to be evacuated. I won't know for sure that he's okay until I speak to him.
He may be in an area with poor mobile phone reception.

All is well here- up in the hills the water goes down quickly, but there are still flood worries for the towns downstream in the old Koo Wee Rup Swamp area.

Bad news is that this deluge was from Cyclone Anthony- Cyclone Yasi doesnt get here until next Friday!

Just think Mick, you could live in the mid west of the USA....Tornado alley,
Total destruction when they hit, can wipe out complete towns.

Stay safe, the water will go down eventually.

I look at the Herald/sun website regularly and have seen the videos. In fact,I was checking out my daughter's flight to Sydney from Melbourne on Fri night(your time) 8.pm,and saw it had been cancelled.Fortunately she was meeting her brother from Sydney at the airport in Melbourne as he had been on a course all week,so she was travelling back with him for the week-end.
The brother in Melbourne dropped her off and the weather was fine....but he had problems getting back home as the roads were flooded and loads of 4WD's who thought they could get the water were sadly mistaken,so he did a U turn and came back the long way round.
Daughter and brother, plus some of his colleagues were put up in the Hilton. It was midnight by the time they got rooms and had to get flights for 6'30a.m.Sat ,so it has cut short her 1st trip to Sydney.

Thank you Tony and Mick for telling us about the cyclones/flooding etc in Australia that you are facing.
The problem here in the UK is that most of us have no idea of the sizes of the areas affected - I was trying to follow the ABC reports with a globe in front of me but it was impossible to see UK and Australia at the same time!
Good luck with the ark! and take care.
