Eddie, very good point. I was baptised, however, many years ago I realised i was not a believer, and wished i had had the choice.
For my own children, I have left that decision up to them, and so far neither have chosen to be baptised.

For some people it takes a long time to realise their own beliefs, sometimes a lifetime.
Parents need to realise that sometimes their children will not want to believe in the same things as they do. :>))

Just as an added extra....

Q. What's the difference between a baptism and a christening?

A. None, they are just different words for the same thing.

A Dedication service is something different. For example, the Salvation Army do not baptise but Dedicate their children to God.

The Church of England also offer a Thanksgiving service if parents wish to have time to think things through.

I was Dedicated into the SA as a baby but life changed and, through various circumstances, I became an Anglican and was baptised at the ripe old age of 21 - fortunately, the vicar did not have to lift me over the font - lol

Well done Shelly..

I know your daughter has been studying the bible of late, she also has a mind of her own thoughts in the Christening of her son, You will all have a great day of celebration that I know will be taken seriously by his mum.

Enjoy the day all of you....... the little fellow has been through it with his operation.Only good news can come from his day in May.

To throw the cat amongst the ..........I had my children christened 25 20 18 and 15 years ago not a question was asked about their god parents and I dont believe either BUT I wanted my children to have a calm stable place to be welcomed into if they chose God

I think the most inportant thing is that God knows they are here and they know God is there if they want him

When my baby was christened ( he is now 19) he had a 15 yr old religious godfather who was desperate for the role and who has since done nothing, and an unbaptised couple who have been the best godparents any child could have.
These godparents drove 2 hours around the M25 on the night of godson's 18th birthday, stopped outside our house around 3 am, blew up 18 balloons, arranged these around our drive and on youngest's car then went home.

It took us hours the next day to work out who was responsible! :-)
