It is lovely Sue, it reminds me of camping holidays when the children were small, we often used to go to St David's in Wales and they sell the most lovely Barra Brith there

Afternoon all, about the Barra Brith. The recipe I used was in a booklet given free at M*****sons, to promote their new instore products, and also had some recipes in. It does not have any fat in, but does have honey in. You soak the dried fruit in strong cold tea, the night before. When mixed, you put it into a 2lb loaf tin, or 2x 1lb tins. It is a lighter mix than say Christmas cake, and when I have a go at it tomorrow again, I am going to play around with the fruit mix. But it is a lovely fruit cake recipe.
About the Stottie cakes, click onto the thread by JoyBoroAngel about Disscontinued products, last posted on on the 18/9. No. 1240265. On the last page someone asks for a recipe, and Mau on the Coast posts the history and recipe for this..

Thanks for the info on Barra Brith, Julia. Linda says it's lovely so I'm going to give it a go. Not sure about the stottie cake - it's sounds more like a bread but I might give it a go.

Drambui sounds nice in the fruit mix:-))

Hello Julia - is today the day you're doing all that lovely cooking. When you bite into your Barra Brith think of lovely Daff and think of me too:-)) I'm going to give it a go over the next couple of days.

Right now I'm about to go off to my daughter and future SIL's engagement party. Looking beautiful of course:-))

Morning Sue - yes I am having my bake-in today, and yes I will think of our lovely Daff when I have a slice of the Barra Brith. Another one of our lovely Welsh ladies I have not seen for a long time is Sue-Supercrutch. Wonder how she is.
When you have a go at it, remember to soak the fruit overnight in cold strong black tea, it plumps up the fruit and makes it nice an juicey.
Have a lovely time at your party today. Hope the weather keeps fine for you all. Best wishes to the happy couple.
