I agree that it's not the breed of dog that matters - it's the way their owners rear, or treat them and how the owners handle their own responsibility.

How often we find a dog attacking an old lady - only to find that she waved her umbrella at it - and adults leave a small child alone with a dog and insist that the child 'did nothing' to provoke the dog. How to they know that? And of course, the owners who allow their dogs to roam the streets - not to forget those who actually train their dogs to attack. The dogs don't understand more than a few words of language and work off instinct - but people expect them to know the language!

weve had dogs all our life,and never had a problem ,the kids were always told DO NOT...pull the dogs about ..do not...put your face to theres .and always treat them kind.
and ive never left the kids alone with them .unless i can see them .all our dogs have had great temprements .xxx

Where on earth were the adults?
I've got cats that have never harmed a human - and would do a lot less damage than a dog - but wouldn't leave them in a situation alone with a child where they could be cornered!
Grandson cornered 2 of them in a tent last summer - they were frantically trying to escape, rather than 'go' for him . I was there, saw the situation and opened a window so they could get out!

Ann one of my dogs is soft as butter to
but the other is pure evil
we bred him and he has never been abused or smacked
he has been brought up exactly the same as the soft one

its sometimes in the breed and he is a very big Akita

he even growls at me sometimes when i get the brush out
yet the next minute he is sitting on my knee like a baby

My dogs are put in the conservatory when kids come to visit. Whatever their age...i trust my dogs with my kids to a point...but strange children..they won't be so forgiving with ..so I would rather not take chances x

the thing with children and dogs is that children can be quite unpredictable and therefore should not be left with any dog, never mind how docile it is - my son's dogs as I said are meek and mild but I donlt know how they would react if a small child poked a finger in an eye or did something else that a small child could likely do

tragic and horrific - however, sad also to see the bull breeds getting a bad press again - my son has a bull terrier and a bull mastiff - both are as soft as butter and wouldn't hurt a butterfly - it's the owners not the dogs

It is Joy tragic ,,,I wonder why so many times its a small child these dogs attack.......reported by neighbour a mastif?

thats why my Akitas are never ever allowed near Baby satan

I see its reported a baby girl of 18 months old has died after being attacked in the home at Crawley,,,,,(((((
