First Word War casualty aged 47

I have an interest in Arthur Herbert Bush who died at Vimy Ridge in 1916 aged 47. He was a sergeant in the Canadian pioneers. What I'm curious about is the fact he was 47 when he was killed, most deaths in WW1 were young men. I just wonder what he was actually doing at the time, I can't see him being on the front line at that age. On CWGC site it states he was Canadian but he was born in England. |
