Radio 4 news -
The Pope has said that the" Christians need to do penance for their sins and recognise their failings".
One assumes this is for all the child abuse......

......so all the perpetrators can go to heaven....

Shame it's on his shoulders, but it's about time he admitted there are, and have been for many years, great failings in the Catholic Church, and a few 'Hail Mary's' won't put it right!!!

Well that statement quite frankly makes me want to vomit. I'd far rather see them do their penance in jail!

I'm amazed they're not treated like the criminals they are.

Oh, for someone in power within the Catholic Church to face reality.

Shame the 'boss' hasn't got the bottle.

I feel sympathy for true believers of this religion.

Some good may come of it all if people begin to think critically and see that particular branch of the organised religion farce for what it really is, and free themselves from the shackles of fear and superstition. Hopefully, anyway.

Do you not realise that the Pope is infallible in his teachings ?

As a lapsed Roman Catholic baptised into the church and educated in a convent environment I became very critical of the Catholic Church many years ago.

As I see it the Pope or any of his entourage will never admit to any wrong doings...they are shrouded within the mystery of the church, the power of the Vatican and above the law.

My heart goes out to the victims and I really hope they will have their day in court but I very much doubt it. I hope I am proved wrong.

The pope only said Christians must repent. The 'people' who do those things to children can hardly be called Christians, can they?

The speech by the Pope was was referring to priests who have abused children. The same priests who were both in a position of power and trust.

I believe priests are 'Christians' - Catholics in fact - whose sins can be absolved by paying a penance.

I, however - according to one priest - will rot in hell because I haven't been Christened.
Personally, I'd rather rot in Hell knowing I've never knowingly hurt anyone, than go to heaven and be in the company of the 'great absolved' who abused both their power and trust.
