Took ages to find Julia and Edward as he kept changing his christian name.
Can't find them on the 1871 census but the 1881 census gives all the information.

Or if you live near enough to the appropriate records office that would stock the census on fiche / film for that area, you can visit it and search the fiche / film yourself.

the earliest census is the 1841,which Carol put on page2 last night for you.

You can search FREE on the 1881 census which is on

www.familysearch.org

Put the site address in the top righthandside box on your computer. Next to where the RED X .

Then click on the the box with the magnifying glas in .that will take you to a list of sites .


The one you need is FAMILY SEARCH, IT should be at the top of the page.

Click on the site name and you should get a site up that is white with a lot of blue and black writing on it.also has a tree top left hand side.

then just below the tree is SEARCH RECORDS.
Click on that box and then on the left hand side iyou will be able to see a list.

Those are the main ones you will use.

When you click on the census,it will take you to a page which will have boxes where you can put your ancestors names in and year of birth or Marriage and Death.

Then above those boxes you will see another box it says CENSUS next to it.and in the box it says ALL.. Click on the little arrow and a box will drop down with

1880 United States Census

1881 British Census

1881 Canadian Census.

You need to click on the 1881 British Census and then you could put your ancestors names in to look for their BIRTHS.then Click on SEARCH BUTTON.

Don't give up on her,she is the next generation to be interested in family trees.

She is a young girl by the sounds of it.

I have been on the 1881 census :)
But i was trying to find out who Thomas' Father was.
And im 16, and i wanted to see how many people i could find for my grandfather :) x

The next step to take is by going to your main Library in your area and ask the Librarian if they have records for the Family History ie Ancestry. and records for Births,mMarriages and Deaths.

You could always ask the librarian if they would help you to look.

If they have the records for the Birmingham then you could make an appointment to view some records.

But it;s a time consumming business and please don't lose heart if you don't find any information the first time you look.
You have the Easter Holidays to fill and what a great way to fill your time looking for Thomas's Father.Your Grandad will be chuffed.Do you live around Birmingham?
Don't give too much detail on here just the Town/City.

Holly, if I were you I would take the next couple of days to put all the info you have already onto a tree, either on here or if it is easier to make sense of for you on a huge piece of paper ( that's how I do it ! ) start with yourself or your parents at the bottom of the page and work back to grandparents, gt grandparents etc...i think it makes it easy to see then what information you are still looking for :))

Holly, another suggestion - this is free - try subscribing to the rootsweb mailing list for Birmingham (the digest form) and ask questions on there, too; it is just possible someone there might have, or might have access to parish registers for the area in which you are interested:

You will need to click on """SUBSCRIBEto Eng-WARKS-BIRMINGHAM-L

a Windows mail box will come up,it will open automatically then all you have to do is click on SEND in the left hand side.
You will more than likely get an email off the site.


You should be able to look at the ARCHIVES at the bottom of the page where it says SEARCH then underneath it says BROWSE.

You can click on BROWSE and just have a look for LAMBSDOWN surname.an read the messages that people have left.
