My settee doesn't

(a) emit noisome fumes onto the population at large
(b) go solo on the school run
(c) feel the need to overtake other settees, or enter into a pissing contest with other settee drivers

All in all, my settee is a pretty socially-responsible place to be !

I do have to disagree

as it happens, I'm sitting here quietly on my settee, minding my own business and - yes - having a cigarette

I wonder how long it will be before the nanny state decides I can't do that?

In preparation for which, I'll just point out that I don't

(a) use my settee whilst answering my mobile phone
(b) drive my settee over the speed limit and then moan that this shouldn't be illegal
(c) park my settee in any "no clamping" zones
(d) sit on my settee under the influence of any drink, drugs or other mind-altering substances

I'm just waiting for officialdom to dictate how I DO use my settee!

Surely, with the rise in TB, 'Gobbing' in the street should be banned!
Tthis 'occupation' isn't necessarily followed by smokers - as we have all seen, many footballers - who surely don't smoke and should be fit enough not to need to, 'gob' - Why?
There's also the added danger of slipping on the product!

I know the feeling! My daughter and husband are very anti-smoking and if she caught me with a cigarette anywhere near my grandson she would be very cross. It is a good way to cut down though...I have him 2 days a week and see him often through the week, and do you know when I am with him I really dont think about ciggies.....so perhaps this is a good time to make the move and become a non smoker!

I do know that once daughter has given birth I will be instructed to fumigate myself
before I get to hold him or her.

Only last week while having strapped my 18 month grandson in the car, I looked into the car parked adjacent me and noticed another granny with a toddler doing the same, she was having difficulty securing the child and the seat looked like it was too loose, as she came round to get in the car she said "I worry that I have her strapped in properly".......got in her car and promptly lit a cigarette!! I was lost for words.........I sat there thinking I wonder if her Daur/son would approve of grannies behavior, even more so with all the publicity regarding passive smoking, how she would have the front to do that in public.

My opinion (for what it is worth!) is this:

Smoking cigarettes is not illegal. If the government would like to make it illegal then go ahead, and impose the neccessary rules and regulations.




Not very likely is it, given the revenue it brings in?

Good point Maggie, but hey picking on the addict diverts attention from the appalling living conditions that some children suffer through mismanagement of funds for social housing, inadequate parenting through either age or education (not picking on anyone in particular), dreadful diet because food manufacturers have a license to print money not food nutrition, the constantly changing advice re what's bad for you etc., etc.,

Come on, get back to picking on the drinkers!!

This bit intrigued me:

So they want to ban smoking outdoors now because (apparently) children will breathe in second hand smoke.

Just think for a moment - where is the exhaust on a car? About
face height for a child in a pushchair - and the majority of exhaust pipes point towards the pavement!
So exhaust fumes don't affect health then? Children (and pedestrians) aren't breathing in second hand car fumes - that are hundreds, indeed thousands of times more toxic than second hand fag smoke?

Not so much a Nanny state - more a bloody dictatorship put forward by people who seem to get paid to do selective research!

...and i bet a lot ot the money for this 'research' came from tax on cigarettes!

Perhaps they will install fag cameras!!!!
