So now we have the Australian Liberal and Labour parties sitting on each others laps and the Canadian Conservatives waiting to see which party will write the best campaign speech.

And your general (you have both a provincial and a general one coming up don't you??) election will be way before ours. We won't vote federally much before Novemeber this year.

Don't they say immitation is the sincerest form of flattery. What I say is, why reinvent the wheel. Hey! Remind me to pay close attention to your lot's speeches. Then I'll do a comparison when our campaign comes around and see if it is tit for tat.

oh well, AuntyS

nowt changes obviously in Ottawa .........................

from an internet news site:-

"The Liberals are accusing the Conservatives of a "direct rip-off" of the title of today's throne speech, saying the theme has been used before in Australia.

"In a release issued Wednesday, the Liberals contend that the title of the pending throne speech is similar to the title of a platform put forward in the 2004 election campaign of former Australian prime minister John Howard.

"The Conservative throne speech is entitled "A Stronger Canada. A Stronger Economy. Now and in the Future."

"Howard's platform was called "A Stronger Economy. A Stronger Australia."

"The Conservatives were embroiled in an Australia-related plagiarism scandal two years ago, when it was revealed that a campaign worker had once plagiarized Howard's words in a speech he put together for Prime Minister Stephen Harper. "

have to laugh, don't you?!

Sylvia, you beat me to it, was about to suggest Vick on Janey's feet under those socks lol

Didn't see this thread earlier, but would like to wish you well very soon Janey

I had my flu jab but not the swine flu one, not long before Christmas and have managed, touch wood, to stay free of much, even tho o.h. was coughing his germs everywhere last week. I wanted to get an antibacterial spray and squirt it at him, he didn't care about passing his bugs around, he is so generous NOT!

How much just under $2.8 billion. Come on now we need to be accurate in these estimations. $1.50 under the total will not raise an eyebrow, $1.5M under the total will greatly please the voters.

The man in the BC street has the right to know what his share of the deficit will be. Based on a round figure population of 4,455,207 persons, my estimation is that if every person in BC pays $629, that should clear the debt.

Of course that is subject to which billion we are describing, that is exactly how many noughts after the 2.8. And one must also allow for the social injustice which will occur in the case of large families.

A husband, wife and seven children will be required to pay $5661. The ensuing outcry will cause the government to exempt certain targetted populations from the payment, therefore increasing the burden on others.

If I have erred in the number of noughts in this calculation just invoke your ten times tables and add a couple of zeros. $629, $6290, $62900.

Just take off your socks Janey and sit there and count your toes. Try not to use your brain too much it helps with the restorative measures if the brain cells stay as inert as possible.

"prime Canuckistanian the-joke's-on-us humour "

oh, most definitely this! Not a codeine-induced hallucination!

and most of us did get it

I loved William Shatner's comment that

"I'm proud of the fact that we Canadians can have 4 beers and still pronounce 'the Strait of Juan de Fuca' without being censored".

OH and I just tucked up at that one

And Michael Buble hamming up "The Maple Leaf Forever"!

Try putting Vick's Vapour Rub on the soles of your feet, then putting on a pair of cotton socks.

Really does seem to help stop coughing.

Take care

This is so excellent!! Out of bed and whinging and complaining like a veteran. There's a spark in the old girl yet.

I thoroughly agree with FannyBG. Keep your shots. I'll build up my resistance to the dreaded lurgi myself. OH goes to the quack and has his shots every year. I'm sure it just so he can be fed chicken soup following the "mild reaction" his body has to the preventative medication.

By the way you need to introduce hot lemon drinks into your diet. There is a lemon medication available to which you add hot water. It is quite palatable and should be taken just before crawling into bed under that mound of bedclothes.

Sounds nasty Janey but hopefully you are over the worst and will soon be back to normal. That is if all the hugs have not caused a set back!!!!

Sylvia I thought you meant you were getting conical Lol!!!!!
Seems like we are all facing elections and budgets and all things political!!

Hey I wonder if we'd be any better off if we put them all in a big box, shook them up and shared them out, would Canada be better with our lot and NZ with Canada's etc etc? I bet we would none of us notice the difference!!

I would truly like some shots if they prevent me being like you Janey, but I dont think they have been invented yet ..:)

Had the shots for anything fluey last winter and had the worst asthma attack of my life, ended up having to use a nebuliser 4 times a day for a fortnight until recovered.

You can stick your shots wherever you like, but not in me !

I will go with getting Flu thanks..........

But nice to see you Sweetpea.(((JC)))..

JaneyCanuck

JaneyCanuck Report 2 Mar 2010 16:43

What the ...... ? ;)

I have a feeling this all has something to do with me. And something about politics. And the Olympics ... It's not nice to confuse the sick.

Still trying to figure out whether that display of airport gift shop flotsam and jetsam bobbing before my eyes on Sunday night was a codeine-induced hallucination or prime Canuckistanian the-joke's-on-us humour ... and if the latter, whether anybody else got it ...

Whatever I've got - some influenza or other, probably swine - it's been a bad case of it. Started Thursday afternoon, has gone through all the classic bits ... coughing myself sick (I had never realized that you use muscles in your bum to cough, until by Sunday evening every muscle south of my ribcage hurt so much I couldn't sit up) ... sleeping for three days under a mountain of blankets wearing two pairs of socks, stretchy pants, a flannel nightie and a double-thick bathrobe ... drinking codeine like koolaid ...

Of course, No.1's idea of feeding the sick is to bring home chips (crisps) and chocolate. What a total moron. I was too sick even to say BRING ME FRUIT until last night. So then he went to the local Polish deli (we're really short on grocery facilities within walking distance) and brought me one apple and some sort of hard dessicated citrus object that I cut open this morning and discovered was a grapefruit ...

So the clinic says no work for another couple of days. The guv'mint will have to resume w/o me. I just came over to check email and let the various clerks know I'm still off. I think it has just taken me about 3 hours and 45 minutes to type this ...

Hugs? I dare ya. Had yer shots??

I didn't. I went to my appointment to get them and the clinic was running late and I just didn't have time to wait around for an extra half hour (they said, so I figured an hour) (I have to wait around a half hour afterward too because I might be allergic to the egg serum) and I left and never made it back. Let me be your lesson. Get yer stupid shots, next year, anyway.

If I'm not sighted on Thursday, somebody organize a search party ... I'll be hard to miss ... the outer socks are lime green and fuzzy and kind of glow in the dark ...

Of course you are allowed to send hugs and well wishes and bring your little gifts and share your cures for this ailment that has our friend so miserable and feeling so sooky.

Thinking about making up a package of vicks vapour rub, eucalyptus oil and goanna salve and sending it over there. However the danger of the jars breaking and the smell permeating through the package has me erring on the side of caution. I don't think Canadian Customs are quite ready for Aussie cure-alls yet.

Don't worry about the typo SylviaIC. My best effort was to type a very important, very official, very very precise document and start the word "Part" with a "F".

Oh the 'orrible embarrassment.

Are you comfortable Janey, would you like another cushion for your poor sore head??

Try and get some sleep. We'll take care of the thread for you!!!

Cynthia

Cynthia Report 2 Mar 2010 07:53

Sending good old camphorated oil as a chest rub. That'll cure anything AND keep people at bay!!
